Samsung Galaxy S7 vs. Apple iPhone 6s: Sixes and sevens

22 March, 2016
The Galaxy S and the iPhone release schedules are out of lockstep, so each gets a shot at sticking around at the top level for at least half of the year. This season, the new Samsung Galaxy S7 lands right in the fast lane with the iPhone 6s already at cruising speed. Come fall, the lanes will change but the chase will continue.

Almost every highend phone review nowadays is trying to be politically correct. Its like watching soccer matches that end up in a draw all the time. Most frustrating.

'Apple phones used to have large pixels too, the iPhone 5s had 1.5µm pixels on its 8MP sensor, but the move to 12MP with the iPhone 6 and 6s dropped the size to 1.22µ'

Since when iphone 6 has 12mp and 1.22µ size ? get ur fact right gsmarena..

I'm sorry. But labeling apple a perfectionist is the most ridiculous thing I've heard today. They have their strengths but they are not that good as they make themselves out to be.

Look Apple fanboys, this article isn't saying the iphone is a bad phone (even I think it's a good phone, but I think it's bad value for the price). What it's comparing is the feature by feature performance. Some things may be more important to you than others. And to be honest, if you spend most of the time running one application at a time, browse the web and take photos/videos (in daylight) the iphone is the better phone.

This article is to provide a side by side comparison so you can evaluate the results and make your purchase decision according to what features are most important to you. Your cheerleading about the iphone being of better quality only misleads people (the facts about problems with iOS, the hardware design and manufacturing are well documented and available for anyone to look up) and you make yourself come across as an Apple fanboy.

vrvly, 22 Mar 2016Apple and samsung are big players, if you decide by tech, s... moreAbsolutely false statement. Over the past 3 years Apple iphone has more issues with bugs than any other OS. You've never seen Android have more than 2 updates, let alone the up to 8 iOS updates Apple's had to fix bugs within the first 10 weeks of a major x.0 release...and I haven't touched on the design and manufacturing issues Apple's has had.

Lag is an issue with someone being too stupid to use their smartphone. More accurately, to manage the apps they run on their phone. Loading everything and anything and then never removing or closing the apps. I've shown friends who complain that their phone lags after months of use how they can get it to run like when it was new by uninstalling and removing apps they don't use (often it's the same people who have their desktop/notebook computer screen filled with app icons that they almost never used - makes sense). These are apps like launchers, font and theme managers/changers, customized keyboards (GO apps are big performance killers) and other 3rd party apps that you can't install on an iphone (unless you jailbreak) because Apple locks down much of the customization features you have in Android. So in this sense, yes, iphone is better for certain people.

FYI - Anyone make an iphone/ipad lag too. I demonstrated this by opening about 40 apps on a friends iphone 4s a few years ago. I can do the same thing with a PC (windows/linux makes no difference). A smartphone is at it's core a computer system, and like all computer systems, has limited resources. If you keep opening applications eventually you overwhelm the system and it slows down.

This is very easy to demonstrate now on older ipads with iOS 9.x+ because the apps and iOS are bigger and more resource hungry. After opening 20+ apps the ipad lags badly. Pressing the home button the transition is slow and choppy to the home screen from the current app. If I close all but 5 or 6 apps, the transition is smooth again.

vrvly, 22 Mar 2016Apple and samsung are big players, if you decide by tech, s... moreThere is lag in iOS, just as much as in a high end Samsung running Android with touchwiz on top.
There are bugs in iOS, and because it's released quicker, iPhone users will see more bugs than Samsung users. Google also has bugs when they release a new Android version, but by the time Samsung has made a version for their devices, most of them are found. Also you should know that it's not fair to complain about Samsung beeing slow to release new android versions. Google has the new version running, and beeing tested on their own devices for several of months, before Samsung gets the version they need to build drivers for. Apple also has their OS running for months before they release it.
If Google delayed the release, and gave makers acess to the upcoming version earlier, even Samsung could release new versions of the OS as quick as Google (and Apple) does, compared to when it's first introduced.
But yes, iPhones usually gets new versions of the OS for longer. But on the other hand those devices that are older than the oldest Samsung to get the newest OS usually can't handle it properly. And if feels more like scheme to get users frustrated that their old device can't run the OS, so that they want to get a new device istead of keeeping the old one.

The personal assistant, if your native langugage is not english, but one of those laguages supported by Apple, well then yes, Siri is much better.
But how often do you see people actually using Siri in situations that using the screen of the device would not be just as quick?

What are you talking about PC compatibility? Samsung has PC compatible software. And you can even use the file manager to access files on the device. And if you take the memorycard out of a samsung device, that as well can be read in a computer.

Android has lots of professional apps. Just as with iOS they are usually not free, but Andorid has more free options so you can get further without paying. But if you want the best software you usually have to pay, even with android.

And there is a long lived myth that iPhones are easier to use, that is mostly not true. But yes, for a user chaning maker the difference in skins between different makers using Android, will result in some confusion.
Apple also sometimes has less features, that might make some part of the OS less cluttered, but that also often means that users will miss out on features that they would use, if they had them.
                                      And iOS isn't alway logical.

Yes there is more accessories made for iPhones.
If you want bumpers or covers, Samsung S series gets plenty of that.
And there are less iPhone specific speakers these days.
And for the rest, most of it is pretty useless, for most people.
Besides, there is always a risk with accessories that they wont work with the next generation, if they are product specific. So I would recommend people not to get product specific acessories and rather look for those that works with multiple devices. That of course does not work for screen protectors and cases, there those that work with multiple devices are often not a good option.

These days I don't see many advtanges with iPhones over latest S series. But if you are used to how one works, you will probably prefer that at first. But if one offerst more or better functionality, in the long run, a change might be the best decision.
But there is no longer any clear cost benefits of choosing a samsung S series. It does have more features, but it's no longer cheaper. Prices might fall quicker, but it still takes a year or more before a S series can be considered a bargain. iPhones are never bargains.
