LG G5 vs Samsung Galaxy S7 edge: Low-light shooting

04 April, 2016
The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and the LG G5 both come outfitted with some great cameras, which should potentially bring low-light photography with a smartphone on the next level. We set out on foot on the streets of New York to put these two to the ultimate camera test - their image quality when it comes to shooting in the dark.

Peace !

Very surprising results. Gsmarena have been promoting the G5 since day one, we were all expecting from G5 to have a bit better benchmark performance and from S7, a bit better night shots, yet gsmarena thinks otherwise!!
Camera is one aspect of modern mobiles, not everything. Browsing, gaming, gps uses, instant messenger services, social media feeds and streaming music and video are the primary use for most of the mobile consumers.
For some reason, sites like gsmarena try to put imaging at the center of interest, well ok, there are some girls that take 100selfies per day, so that they can post the best on fb, but most of the users fire up the camera, once every 3 days.
Ever since last year, the flagships had excellent cams for the casual user, using tripods and such goes way beyond the casual user and i suspect the focused interest on this has some promotional funding in the background.
Ns to see LG catching up with the best at photo imaging, but still that doesnt overweights the growing of their bezels and whats worse, cannot compensate for their pathetic battery endurance. It is a shame for any flagship to have less than 75h endurance, they should be ashamed of themselves, not to be able to fix that after 3 consecutive flagships...
G2 was the bezel and endurance king, but dint have the best camera, now that the G5 has those huge bezels and terrible endurance, suddenly all we care for is photoshots with tripods...

I think they really need to add more non-tripod photos to this comparison as like you say, who uses a tripod with their smartphone? Certainly a very small niche.

S7 won all the non-tripod shots, which is how most people will take their smartphone pictures.

This comparison does not replicate real world usage. Most people do not have tripods that they bring along with them everywhere they go. Why not do every test handheld? Of course the camera that opts for the higher ISO and aided with a tripod will produce better shots. But take the tripod away and it will have significantly more motion blurr with its low shutter speeds. Gsmarena need to be more professional.

Actually to be honest ever since the release of the S7/edge, I noticed that GsmArena doesn't seem to like the lower resolution used. That is based on the articles, which gave me a feeling that the new cam setup is a bit underwhelming for them. Compared to the articles about the S6 series, they don't seem to be that enthusiastic with the new Cam of the S7/edge

Use it in hand, we will be ok with little different perspective but use the phone camera as it is meant to be used. In hands. Not on tripod. Then lets see which phone keeps an advantage of getting clear, detailed images without blurring.
