LG G5 vs Samsung Galaxy S7 edge: Low-light shooting

04 April, 2016
The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and the LG G5 both come outfitted with some great cameras, which should potentially bring low-light photography with a smartphone on the next level. We set out on foot on the streets of New York to put these two to the ultimate camera test - their image quality when it comes to shooting in the dark.

Both Samsung and LG fans should be happy with these results. More importantly, thunk of how far the smartphone camera technology has come in the last 2 years. Video at 4k and the amazing quality of low light photos!?! Nothing short of amazing.

Quite surprised that G5 has better image quality than Samsung. By the way great review.

AnonD-468210, 06 Apr 2016Haven't seen G5 in person LG still didn't launched it here ... moreyeah, i have only bad experiences with LG both in mobile and other stuff (fridge). But the g5 looks like a good phone, not good looking but otherwise nice. The main problem IMO is the battery, that is a deal-breaker for me. I personally dont like sammys UI and the dual glass body, but between G5 and S7 i think i would go for the S7, based on the whole phone. But i will wait for Sony and HTC before i decide witch too get. I tried the Lumia 950 XL and that is not a good phone, it is just not ready os. I sent it back, only good thing was camera. So i will wait for a while before trying Win phone again.

In that other camera shootout between the S7 and G5, the S7 won nearly all tests. The S7 won all night shot tests in terms of detail, color balance and noise reduction and almost every daylight test.

So why is it the other way now?

Sad, that Microsoft can't get it's act together on mobile and release the successor to the Lumia 1020. We get to sit and watch these 2 pretenders battle it out while the world's best mobile photography rots in Redmond, WA.

Salt aside, I'd rather the LG G5. More natural images and more resolved detail.

G5 has the best mobile camera so far. Just look at some image taken by both phones. Just deal with it, to deny the obvious is just lack of intelligence. Both phones are amazing, LG is more innovative, great camera, friends, IR blaster, better UI. Samsung wins in terms of design, battery, display, waterproofing, benchmark results almost the same. For me ,camera is the most important part, so far I would be buying LG G5. Waiting to see P9 and One 10 to make the final decision. By the way, great review, gsmarena.

So overall, if you want to use tripod everytime you capture, get g5..
                                  Else, S7..

I think in real life, S7 will be better for me as it capture images faster.. I will never want to have slower shutter rate for day to day photpgraphs..
Slower capturing allows more detail but more chances of noise when using hand.

Can you compare using similar shutter speed and iso in pro mode?

Shame its not fhd but 4k age. G5 shows that amount of details matter. Concerning s7 Im pretty disappointed as shot are darker -setting from few gen earlier and not very great to view. Still, when comparing screens and batteries/endurance, g5 looks really cheap. Wonder what are in LG thinking outing Something like that. Same drawback got s7 with focus gone from 4k to fhd and from more detail to less than before. No phone to be happy about in the end. Damn,Sony, where's your Z6?

AnonD-468210, 06 Apr 2016Haven't seen G5 in person LG still didn't launched it here ... moreS7 feels heavier compared to its size. People fail to notice. But S7 edge is definitely a head turner.

However, G5 would definitely edge in terms of looks given the metal at the back and fresh looks, given people are OK with its 149mm profile. For me, even my G4 looks atleast 4 mm more in my hands. S7 is just a heavy version of S6.

But, I wish there must be some kind of service center or customer satisfactions survey/tests or something, Samsung would leave LG miles behind. Customer support sukcs big time for LG. They are bringing down the whole LG brand not just mobile deptt.

But S7 is a piece of beauty it works flawlessly too

Waiting for trying out the G5 too hope LG priced it right here
And LG has very bad reputation of price cuts even worse than Samsung here
So a wait for some while will definitely G5 a sweet deal
