Sony Xperia X Performance review: Chief of staff

17 June 2016
It's the best Sony’s got. The Xperia X Performance is the chosen one to fly the banner of Sony's revamped smartphone lineup. The top of the range, the Deus X Machina, the one to make you forget about your ex – the Z-series.

AnonD-537563, 21 Jun 2016Internal NAND - Sequential Read http://images.anandtech.co... moreFunny thing is.. Despite being lower in both than htc....it is faster in performance..

This quote seems to be relevant:
"we use AndroBench 4 to get a better idea for overall performance, but this is really just a first order approximation and hides an immense amount of information that you would want to properly evaluate storage performance.
By default, Androbench 4 is using relatively ridiculous settings. For example, for sequential reads and writes it uses a 32MB block size when the average sequential read/write is more like 256KB or 512KB. It also sets 8 IO threads by default, which to some extent is unreasonable because such a test setting is really mostly designed to favor storage with a UFS controller and using such aggressive settings can actually have a detrimental effect on eMMC performance due to resource contention issues."

So that "random" Toshiba set obviusly does a better job than initial numbers say, as in real life usage X speed is superb, as seen in yt speed compare tests.

All these comments turning into a flame war, the phone IS overpriced but I bet the price will drop soon if there are no sales, some kind of logic and common sense.

Seems like a good phone, 5' display seems to be enough, QHD or even UHD is a bit overkill for tiny screens, I have both a Galaxy S7 Edge and a Lumia 1520, I can't see the pixels so it doesn't matter. I came from a Xperia Z3, pre ordered it actually, it was a great phone, actually the battery life was on par with my S7 Edge but I'm still getting rid of the bloatware so I'm hoping it'll eventually get better.

What I didn't like about this new X Performance was the battery downgrade and they could've stick with a 5.2' inch display, seems to have room for it, while 0.2 doesn't mean much, it's about what you need for the on screen navigation buttons which is almost permanent. (Actually 0.36 inches)

My Z3 is still running strong, I gave it to my mom, always kept it in a case, Spigen with "air cushions", with a Nilkin 9h 2.5d glass screen protector, very durable stuff. Lasts over 2 days of moderate use without a charge with Stamina mode on. Build quality is superb and yes it's waterproof, I've took pictures underwater, it's kinda cool, except for the touchscreen going mad on you.

What caught my attention about the X Performance were the benchmarks, 3GB Ram seems to be the sweet spot, even if synthetic benchmarks says otherwise, anyone knowing how *nix works and with some basic knowledge about how cache and minfree works on Android might bring up the fact putting up to 6GB Ram on mobile device nowadays makes nonsense, if you have that amount of active multitasking then you better have a laptop grade battery and a big one because most of it is solely used for cacheing and nothing else, can the current SoCs keep up with that amount of multitasking? Don't think so.

I'd rather have better internals such as faster internal memory with high write speeds. GSMArena could provide us with this info and more specific, less synthetic benchmarks, it's kinda relevant, especially with so many cheap phones powered by high end SoCs, they might be saving on something else.

Why not take the whole sony xperia line as a whole as well? There will also be problems and accident related damages. And the iphones can actually perform well on daily tasks. That is why many people love them and not just the so called iSheeps. Sony phones also perform well, but there are many more better alternatives that are priced below them as well. They can't get away with their conservative approach on android just like what apple is doing.

Anonymous, 21 Jun 2016Cut and paste people who have no business on Sony posts. Hehe Thank you for proving my other post. If one person who actually lines sony says one thing that does not praise then or mentions a factual issue all you little fans get all upset and start piling in making up rediculous claims.
They crack. It's a fact. And the digitizer trends to die out when that happens.
It's called an issue and here in reality all products have them. Grow up and deal with it. It has nothing to do with being a fanboy or a hater out this company is better than that.
It was a factual response to a comment like that

Not sure why there are so many haters on here, if the phone is not up to your standard, why are you here spouting your bile? For me, appreciate what Sony to do in re-calibrating its market but I am not convinced. I have owned and loved every Sony top ender until the Z3, however, I simply do not see myself going back to 1080p screens. The camera issue has also plagued Sony, purely down to software algorithms, since they have the best sensors in the business, practically everyone else uses them.

If Sony see sense and does a Premium version, I will be all over it like a cheap suit! Until then.....
