Tbh, the main problem with Ubuntu Touch right now isn't its incomplete feature set (that's a given for any WIP OS revamp), it's the direction that Canonical is taking Ubuntu, with using Mir instead of building up Wayland, stirring up useless BS controversies with other distro maintainers and outright badmouthing fellow Linux developers like an incessant brat. That is the main issue with Ubuntu Touch; Canonical is trying to build Ubuntu like a closed source project ala Apple (while still being a GPL Linux distro), when in its early days it was a proper bluecollar GPL respecting open source project. This has caused a rift within the development community, and as a result, Ubuntu is the project that is suffering the most.

i wouldnt say ubuntu is engineering, I prefer Freebsd myself, except my gaming rig will never be updated past windows 7. linux based (should say unix based) is more for tinkerers then engineering.

Using Windows, in comparison, feels like going to war - and I've been using Windows without problems for a decade. Some of my family including their kids and an IT guy use various Ubuntu versions too.

There was apparently a recent update to the OS (OTA-11) that made a number of dramatic improvements.
Bottom line is that this Ubuntu OS is on a pretty steep development curve, and soon enough it will be a lot better than today.

But this does not translate to the same result when they did it right. They (Android and Ubuntu) are asymptotic in similarity but that's it. They came from the Linux DNA, yet they varied very close and far at the same time.
And no one will expect developers and investors suddenly jumping ship to Ubuntu coming from the tried and tested Android and iOS space. This is one of the missing legs of Ubuntu to stand firm in the mobile world.
Ubuntu is stable as of this moment, but look at how it fares. Even the battery performance can tell you half of the story that it had not gotten past of hardware optimisation. Like I said, looks and acts like an Android, yet yields differently.

I gotta say, it's bug, sometimes annoying, but it's not Android nor iOS. I can use it because I only do sms, calls, casual email and browsing. If you rely on your phone for other stuff, forget it. At least for now.
Anyway, I'm glad to see the visibility of the OS. Although not the best news, but they will get there.

If you want a business to succeed, you have to look at the current competition and learn from their mistakes, Ubuntu had plenty of time to polish their OS to compete with the current competition.

This is weird. An ubuntu-based OS lack of apps?
Isn't Ubuntu already have thousands of linux apps?
Normally I'd expect Ubuntu Touch able to run existing Ubuntu/Linux apps.
