Honor 8 review: Shining Knight

08 September 2016
Branding aside, the Honor 8 is a purebred Huawei sharing much of the P9 DNA. It was created to fill the blanks left by the P9 by reaching to markets and price tiers outside of those mandated by the Leica co-branded flagship.

Why on earth would anyone want to be forced to make a choice between a second SIM OR a microSD card? I need both and for me this is a total show-stopper.

Waiting for time saver review now.

Indeed, the Mi5 and Axon 7 deserved to be mentioned, so I've fixed that omission.

In the review for MI5 GSMARENA went for all praise for it and went on to say that if it is available in your geographical area then you should surly grab one for yourself, but in the review for Honor 8 i was surprise that MI5 is no were mentioned for any type of comparison.

                            Best looking mid range phone.

The blue colour looks the best followed by the black.

I think the ZTE Axon 7 and Alcatel Idol 4S at least deserve to be mentioned in the conclusion segment, seeing they are almost identically priced.

Pathetic battery life just like the Honor 7 I have. If battery life matters, go for a Lenovo.

Good, except for the battery backup. Shows that the Chinese SoCs are still not upto scratch. Can't Huawei build this with a Snapdragon or Exynos?

I a have mixed feelings about this review.

Firstly, no single word about the screen protection. Namely, lack of the gorilla glass. Doesn't necessarily be a bad thing but some users from xda already reported that the screen scratches like a hell. Very disappointing.

Secondly, the battery life result is surprising. Having a more power efficient SoC than P9 (lower CPU freq.) - the gsmarena endurance score is lower. Other reviews shown the opposite. Maybe a mistake in the methodology?

Thirdly, audio quality looks very good and promising. Especially the stereo crosstalk. Don't know how solid the test was but definitely a good news.

It looks they made very solid phone which is ruined because of Honor has spared few bucks on a decent screen protection. You can buy additional one of course but hey, imagine this faux pa is made by samsung, nexus or iphone.

It's 400 EUR and with this price tag smartphones do have gorilla glass 3 or 4.

Blown away by the camera.. Such an impressive phone but the lack of 4K video and mediocre GPU holds me from getting one.
