Our camera shootout: iPhone 7 vs. Galaxy S7 vs. Xperia XZ vs. LG G5

17 October 2016
Team Fall in the red corner versus Team Spring in the blue. Okay, not really - it's actually every phone for itself, but the newly-launched contenders from Sony and Apple take on the established players from Samsung and LG that have been around for some six months.

Tann Hauser, 21 Oct 2016Well boy, you seem to be lying. Heres for example exif dat... moreOmg, and you believe that is correct? ISO 8000 @ f2 on a sunny day....really. The EV rating of direct sunlight is around 15. That scene is in the middle of the day with bright sun. Go find an EV calculator online...use the settings from the downloaded jpegs....doing so you will see that the S7 calculated the scene to be 14 EV (correct). Compare that to your bogus settings from Imgur of the XZ, Sony calculates the scene to be 6.7 EV (way wrong). So, the value (ISO 8000) is a typo or the light meter on the XZ is pile of junk.

g5 16-9 ratio is a killer feature for me

      wide angle camera too

i like how fast s7 is to open and focus

i wish my g5 was as fast as s7 but i compromise that for the
poster photos i take with it

glad we are in this era of great camera phones

        1st: tie g5- s7 2: xz 3:ip7

all of these are good camera phones, my favorite is the xz and the s7 as a phone though.

As stated in the review, page 3 : "Xperia aficionados often insist that in low light Sony cameras perform best when shooting in 8MP, and not in full resolution (23MP or so in this case). While the premise of having a 23MP camera (and having it advertised as such) only to use it in 8MP so you get better image quality is shaky". In both cases the 8MP and the 23MP, both at ISO 400, the quality is atrocious.

The first two samples from the XZ in daylight of the building and the tree are both ISO 40. The S7 are both ISO 50. In the closeup shots of the red truck, the XZ is at ISO 100 while the S7 is at ISO 150! The HDR samples, selected from those taken in auto mode, XZ is at ISO 40 and the S7 is at ISO 50. Look at the detail of the dark trees near the middle of the frame, the tree looks like cotton wool in the XZ sample, there is no detail, while the S7 renders a far better / more detailed image. Low light samples : XZ @ ISO 100 (looks like an oil painting, disgusting) and the S7 @ ISO 125. Let's not even get started on the panoramas ;) In all cases the S7 renders far more detailed photos.

GSMA did not bother to update their original HTC 10 review even though over time HTC has released a few firmware updates that bring improvements to image quality. Anandtech on the other hand took their time and released their review quite late, but the result shows the effects of those updates.

Xperia shots are 8000 ISO, rest are 50 to 3000 ISO max.
                    Ponder on that for awhile

At daylight conditions Xperia xz is superior than any smartphones camera. It has much wilder fov and gathers much informations.it's also sharp, detailed andaccurate color.according to gsm. Lg comes first but compare lg and Xperia, later one gathered much amount of informations in whole frame.though it's bit noisy still superior than competitions. Don't judge photos by less noise. A professional photography comparison considers all aspects of cameras where ga. Lacks.

Good job S7 and LG G5!
With the daylight photos look comparable between the shooters (I think most will be pleased with either phones), I tend to give (my preference) the best camera to S7 for the best results in specific tasks where many also took their photos; such as Close ups/Macros and Low Light. I was surprised the S7 even took the best panorama pics too.
The G5 add a fun factor with the extra wide lense tho.

If the price is right, surely HTC phones will be included. Hahahaha. It's ok, people can read unbiased reviews from DXOMARK. Google pixel is number 1 as of today. HTC 10, S7 and X performance are among the phones with best camera in second. Third, Moto z, S6 edge with Sony sensor and Xperia z5. This site is predominantly a Korean brand fan and maybe ghost employees of them. Buyers should read more to get unadulterated facts. Peace out!
