Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime review: Fancy on a budget

25 November 2016
Redmis, Redmis everywhere. The Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime is the top-specced one of the forth generation, which so far consists of three phones (remember, the Redmi 4 and 4a were announced alongside the 4 Prime).

Hi, I wanted to buy Redmi Note 3 Pro SE, but i´m a little bit afraid of 5,5 inch display. Should I wait like 2 months for Redmi 4 version with european LTE or should I try Redmi Note 3? Thank you.

Does this phone work with Cardboard? I read that some Xiaomi phones (like Redmi 3) have emulated gyroscope which doesnt work with Cardboard. Is that the case with Redmi 4 too?

I've used to loved lenovo device because of cheap and the rom did not too heavy than xiaomi.lenovo just didnt improve so much in rom stability, slow update, no good support, bad support forums unlike xiaomi.now it makes me like xiaomi so much than lenovo.because of cheap price, good build, good quality, good performance, and friendly support forums

Dearest people. This is a message recommendation for Xiaomi !?Firstly, thanks for your affordable prices that in the hard days help people of quality searching products. What did you get from the highest selling of remie Note 3 with SD 650 !!!?What's wrong with the numbers redemi 5,6,7,8,9, and Mi 5,6,7,8,9,...to prevent confusion, though people know what to select !!!Nevertheless 4 prime of yours like J7 prime of Samsung is an affordable budget midrange smartphone while J7 prime of Samsung Now is pricey because of external reasons beyond writing here,....Justice Rights,....

Lead2XL, 29 Nov 2016I like Xiaomi phones, currently loving the Mi5. A big facto... moremi5 is made from glass while redmi 4 prime body is metal. it's unfair to compare different materials. it matters only if phone gets dropped but not everyone is clumsy to drop. 40 grams don't change much and mi5 is very light phone, comparing to 3s prime this phone is heavier only by 10 grams or so but is full metal

I like Xiaomi phones, currently loving the Mi5. A big factor for me is compactness for ease of holding - the Mi5 has narrow bezels and amazingly weighs only 129 grams! The problem I have with the Redmi 4 series is the weight - 156 grams is way too heavy for a 5 inch phone, especially when the Redmi 3 series was only 144 grams. I realize this is not much lighter than the Redmi 4 but the latter is almost 30 grams heavier than the Mi5. There are lots of less weighty 5 inch phones on the market. Ideally, they should be under 140 grams max.

Don't write wat you don't know, everything about xiaomi is almost perfect, thin bezels, great battery life, and awesome and features packed os.

Built-in battery is not really a disadvantage. It makes the phone more slim and reliable. We all have powerbanks now, witch have more capacity anyway.

The build quality is poor, the bezels make me wanna puke, the os is confusing, laggy, and buggy. You will be doomed coming from flagship to low class. Just wait for them to grow enough

Just bought mine and I'm waiting excited to get my hand on this phone, I have a LG G2 now and not having Micro SD Slot is a killer for me, also, with only 16gb of internal memory and only 10.58 available right out of the box i'm struggling to keep my music inside my phone (I've lowered the bitrate of my songs to fit them inside my phone...

But with Redmi 4 I will be able to have my collection on Micro SD, update whenever I want just by taking it out and transfering new music from my PC and also it makes life WAAAY easier when installing custom ROMs which is a thing I'm into.

I can say that if it wasn't for storage, I wouldn't be upgrading from LG G2 so soon, but, since there's nothing I can do to expand it without having to occupy the USB port, I guess that I made a nice decision by getting this mid-range phone that will most likely be with me for at least 2 years, and then it will have paid itself already, I rather expend little bucks on a phone since the programmed obsolescence is always on course... at least I save money.

Savor, 27 Nov 2016For the people who want two-day battery life. Don't need to... moreWhat are you talking about? Xiaomi phones support MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) and don't need any special suite just like your beloved LG phones.

And LG and longetivity? You didn't hear about the G4 bootloop problems then? Or the fact that LG G5 doesn't work with half of the operators in my country since they switched on 4G+ and LG doesn't care (so the customers must switch the phone into 3G mode).

And 720p? Just buy Redmi 4 then, problem solved.

alexv, 27 Nov 2016for those of you who say that xiaomi should stick with a 72... moreFor the people who want two-day battery life. Don't need to make excuses for it losing battery life when 1080p isn't that much better than 720p on a "5.

Again, I really don't care for Xiaomi anymore because I dislike how we need to transfer files to a computer. I can't stand Mi Suite which is worse than iTunes and MediaGo. Xiaomi needs to let the computer recognize the storage without the need of Mi Suite which also isn't available to Macs.

My favorite phones comes from LG, Motorola, and Nokia right now while I prefer Apple computers and Samsung TVs. I say LG is tops for smartphones because it backs Android and removable battery. No matter how much you use your phone, battery degrades fast on them.

Only LG seems to care for people who want to use the same phone for as long as they can. The rest wants your money again after two years. The best smartphone of 2016 for me and if you want some longevity usage is really the LG V20. Just don't like the price, size, and camera hump on the back. Content with my G3 S with its 720p/2540 mAh battery.

Please do xiaomi phones scratch test. They all have a glass on par with gorilla glass 4, but from other suppliers than Corning. I hate how your site spreads a lot of misinformation.
