Android 7.0 on the Galaxy S7 edge: Grace UX-ed Nougat

01 February 2017
Software updates never come soon enough if you ask the average user. Manufacturers try to be reasonable and explain countless times that it takes extensive testing before a build is ready for rollout, but no - 'where's my update?!' is all they get. We just might have been guilty of the same.

Cassy O, 02 Feb 2017No no no, there is not Android phone out there which won't ... moreMy expeience on both Android phones in general and Samsungs specifically is they have little lag and are stable and fast. IOS on the other hand does lag at times and has a much buggier experience and Russian Roulette updates.

So pretty much a bad update. Messes with the menu and is a step backward on the notifications and fast toggles.

Can you all stop with the "Android uses Java" nonsense? Android uses Java syntax, but it is not compiled to Java bytecode neither does it run in JVM.

Well, i think their is them selves to blame for this ignorance. They should not announce an update 1 year before it's release. Before people became the updates without knowing. Nobody complained, even tough they wer once a lifetime....

Cassy O, 02 Feb 2017No no no, there is not Android phone out there which won't ... moreCause the are is no lag free phone and is excessively exaggerated for Samsung and Android in general and excessively under exaggerated for ios.
And until recently when apple finally made an attempt to work at it ios had a Dramatic world lead in app crashes for at least 5 or so years.
Yet the entire idea of their perfect built os and updates and 1 or 2 phones and higher prices was supposed to mean things like didn't happen. But it was massive.
That's a performance issue in reality that has a real effect.
            But oh....Android lags....

Hate these white backgrounds. Come on Samsung can we have a pure black theme preinstalled like there used to be in Nokia Symbian phones like the legendary N8? It'd be really, really nice and what's better way to save battery on AMOLED displays other than applying a completely black theme.

Please people, stop lying! No phone is truly lag free. "Lag free" is a dream that we cant get it now. Android, iOS, Tizen, what ever OS will lag but what matter is how many lag/day and how long it take a time/lag.

Cassy O, 02 Feb 2017No no no, there is not Android phone out there which won't ... moreProbably, but those will not slow down anywhere near to the extent of a Samsung. People who use phones like 6P, HTC 10, well they are running a ROM without any formatting for over six months now, and no noticeable slow down, not counting the Pixels yet as those are only three months old. I have never gone through a Samsung where I didn't need to format it every six weeks or something.

But yes that Java thing is a fact, and the reason why iOS and other non-Java based versions will be better than android for that reason.

had updated 7.0 to my s7 edge.. It started to auto restart and get hanged either.. the service people say have to change the mother board..
S7 edge users, be careful while you upgrade to 7.0 on your edge.. it might disappoint you..

ithehappy, 02 Feb 2017There is not a Single Samsung Android phone out there which... moreNo no no, there is not Android phone out there which won't go slow down, not only Samsung Android phone, why? because most of Android apps or system is written with JAVA. Java needs Virtual machine and garbage collection and that things make Android slow, while iOS is written with Swift / Objective-C, that's why iOS is fast because High level language doesn't need some process like Android/Java.

There is a lot of Samsung haters not only Apple fans but other Android OEM fans that lying by saying Samsung will slow down and their Android phone is not ( while actually there some lags on their phone, and when i prove their beloved Android phone is lag, and they will say "there is no phone that lag free"

And I want Samsung will focus with their Tizen OS, because Tizen is written with C/C#/C++ not Java.

I'm waiting for the battery performance review. Not gonna get nougat if the battery life is not better than marshmellow

All S, all Notes, yeah, had them almost all , never again. The only advantage of an update on a TouchWiz phone is when you go to statusa- about phone you will see the newer firmware's version no., just for the sake of your mind's peace, other than that, its same old same old.

Best of luck for future endeavours Samsung.

For anyone with Nougat on their S7 / S7 Edge...Does the updated camera have an option to disable burst mode?

Really love the Grace UX, I love the smoother animation and icon, but I'm not so excited because there is nothing really new on the features. And yeah let's see what the S8 will bring.

White background for setting in an AMOLED screen? Nice job

Still looks ugly.. and with that pale white background looks like it's a 144p display not 1440p. Yuck!

All of these look very nice and it makes me think to consider Sammy again but then again...i wonder how long a flagship from them would last until it'd get slow...like slowed down like hell...
I've had the galaxy s4 which ran perfectly, battery was amazing and everything was snappy and perfect, then i sold it and gave iPhone 5 a try and than again, went back to Galaxy S4 (brand new, yet again) which has started showing slowdowns even after multiple resets...and the battery life was horrible. (i've spent only 2 months with Apple, so not much in terms of device ageing)

I'm sure Sammy has changed a lot since then but whenever i think about Samsung products all i can think about is that the software would be slowed down in order to make me buy another flagship from them... (i was fine with Touchwizz's looks) Well, just for the sake, checked my friends Galaxy S5, S4 and S6 recently and the s4 was unusable, the s5 was barely and the s6 still holds up very well, i'm curious to see what'll happen to the S6 by Q2-Q3 this year. If it'll be just fine i'll reconsider maybe.
