Samsung Galaxy S8+ review: Infinity and beyond

18 April 2017
What was once an impossible fantasy - a sketch in someone’s book, a render of an ambitious concept - is now a reality. These are just some thoughts that come to mind holding the Galaxy S8+, the big and bold next step Samsung took.

Tann Hauser, 19 Apr 2017Outperforms what? http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?i... moreDid you even look at the link I provided?

It shows the low light studio for the S8+, Xperia X (23MP) and Xperia XZ (19MP). The S8 blows them away.

The S8 cam is the same as S7 in basic specs but look at the studio samples and the performance is a big step up in low light.

Even newer Android or ios version updates are to make ppl upgrade their phones. Not anything like privacy. Everyone is being tracked... With his phone, with each email login, with each GPS use, with each status update(what they're doing) and now with smart home . Consumer privacy does not exist at all IMO.

AnonD-483897, 18 Apr 2017835 "95%" same as 835?My mistake, I meant "So the 835 is 95% the same as 821 in terms of performance and should be more "efficient"".

Agree with gsmrena of the main shortcoming of S8: screen ratio 18:9 is B4D.
Thin and tall like anorexia supermodel.

And I dont follow what samsung giant marketing budget tries to influence you sheeps that this was the best...LOL

I'll take 16:9 phone like HTC10 or S7edge any day!

To put it simple: this is thw most ugli flagship samsung ever produced, but the voice in your head said it's the most glamorous. Brainwashed lol.

But, whatever criticism there is for the S8 samples, I blame Sony (IMX333) :)

S8 cam is same as S7, lack of field depth and detail that is overprocessed, heavy ringing due to too much contrast, but that seems acceptable in auto lowlight only, where it also has too much grain and lack of detail, not good color reproduction And manual capability is way below Sonys higer mpx sensors with rgb color sensor added.

AnonD-77443, 19 Apr 2017The camera MP race is well and truly dead. Cramming more... moreYou could call it low light camera, but daylight stills and 4K sharpness went down even compared to generations before. It's not bad to have good low light capabilities, but on sony you get similar results in manual mode (because of auto got too much processing) and that with f2.0 .I also expect sony to come qith better results after few months because they change camera every half year, not like samsung same camera after an year. Mp race is not over, be it screen or camera, and sony shows its possible. I actually don't car3 about low light as I live through day, not night, mostly.

So I read the review. Some of my thoughts are similar. But not all. I got my S8+ as well today. A few things, which i surely not liked about review, or i would say, was biased:
                                      - Fingerprint sensor issue. Much worse then mentioned. A real turn down
                                      - Awsum screen. No complains
                                      - Camera, pretty much same as my wife's S7E
                                      - Battery life. Havent ran through paces yet.
                                      - Looks, average. It is no where close to build quality of Xperia. My old XZ is way studier and better looking then S8.
                                      - I like less beezels design, already having touch issues on edges. So, looks like more of a gimick till now
                                      - Bixby. Would never use it. i am happy with google now. OK GOOGLE!
                                      - Speaker output, average. Pretty much same like my Xperia but voice quality not better, offcourse xperia had stereo speakers
                                      - Final words, good phone. But holding in hand, looks like a toy rather a phone. My XZ looks like a way better professional looking sturdy device. Will wait for Premium XZ as well before making final call if new S8+ will land in my media lab or my day to day phone.

                                        AnonD-628531, 19 Apr 2017Galaxy Note 8 > Xperia XZ Premium > Galaxy S8 = LG V3... moreXperia Z6 > Galaxy Note 8 > Xperia XZ Premium > Galaxy S8 = LG V30 = Nokia 9 > LG G6 = Google Pixel

If rumors are then true that Sony will come back to Z series, but I am quite sure that the flagship Sony phone at IFA this year will have much better competition. If history is an indication, Sony always brings their best at IFA (i.e. Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, Z5 family, XZ)
