Sony Xperia XZ Premium review: The showstopper

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium has a gorgeous 4K display. Better yet, a 4K HDR display! The latest Snapdragon 835 chipset is pulling the strings and delivering lightning-fast LTE while the Adreno 540 is firing up millions of pixels in a heartbeat. With or without the mirror finish, this is one of the classiest designs around and waterproof, too.

        Then let's talk about low light. As a Sony fan, I won't deny it - XZ Premium's low light capability still has a lot to be desired, but let me throw back the same observation to you, the S8 can't provide a much much better image either.

        And going back to daylight, don't make me laugh of saying a 12mp 1/2.5" sensor would provide more resolution than a 19mp 1/2.3" sensor.
        Don't fool yourself, because Samsung tries so hard to oversharpen everything to compensate for the lack of detail. Sure the XZ Premium won't match high end full frame sensor digital cameras, but one thing for sure is that it's the best daylight smartphone camera shooter today, hands down.
        Ask a professional photographer of which will they choose between the XZ Premium and S8/S8+ for daylight shooting, and I'll bet $1000 - he/she will prefer the XZ Premium because of natural detail rendering vs. Samsung's horrible detail enhancing algorithm that gives off the ugly halos on objects.

        And you may ask me why I'm only using the S8/S8+ as a comparison reference, but that's for every people's purpose as the S8/S8+ literally has the best camera in the world where the XZs/XZ Premium doesn't exist.
        Mind you, this new camera hardware just needs more practice, but once nailed by Sony, will be totally unmatched. Every new Sony IMX sensor only needs refinements before achieving the full capacity, just like how every phones often get better and better with newer updates.

We don't look on the most innovation, we just buy Sony cause we trust on their products. And I don't find any better options to choose too. I dont like Samsung and Apple, I dont like Chinese phones and Google/Nexusphones(which I trust) is not available. I dont really like LG but when I used one, I appreciated it but not quite was pleased as Sony though. So dont be judgeful of why we still buy the company that gave up on innovation.I dont think many people would understand this but it's my honest opinion about Sony. As long as it is around, I'd continue buying their products.

XZ Premium isn't the best low light shooter IN AUTO, but proper Manual settings will surely blow anything else away.

Just try and zoom in, you'll see a lot of noise. I hoped Sony would nail it with the camera this year, but nope !

                            In ancient Greece time land dwellers thought that the earth was flat (heck some do to this day) and they were numerous, probably the vast majority. But earth was never flat. The popularity of an argument doesn't make it true.

                            Even if it was to be unpopular to say that Sony does not really invest in her mobile department (thanfuly it is not) it would still be true, because by theur own admission it's not one of their primary businesses. Now if you want to support a company that doesn't give much thought to their products be my guest, many of us would be endlessly critical of weak attempts like Sony's , Samsung's and (lately) LG's.

Probably PlayStation fans and/to Ericsson fan that don't yet know that neither of the two teams has/had anything to do with the present Sony mobile department, hence the unearned adulation.

                              Phones should be judged on their merits. And this one doesn't have many. Just put it side by side w the two year old phone of their own (that his was meant to replace) and you struggle to see important difference.

                              This is not hating , this is supporting the closure of a company that gave up on innovation.

                                        Some of the comments are saying that Xperia XZP takes a more real shot than S8. I know nothing about photography, but to those who use DSLR I like to ask, at auto mode which is more closer to DSLR (auto) quality, S8 or XZP? I am not sure if this was a stupid question or not, but I really like to know how much post-processing is done.

                                        And, is there any necessity to defend the XZP or bash S8? Both look great. Why give haters the ground!!!
