I would choose the G6 for the design, and the S8 for its internals.

Sure the S8+ over saturates photos, has HDR tweaks and does a lot of onboard processing, but at the end of the days the S8+ looks better, has more detail and less noise. In relation to the natural image argument. I have never seen a professional photo where it hasn't been tweaked, colours brightened etc... mobile cameras simpply do this on board.
I have a Canon D40 and 17-55 f2.8 lens (about $1000 back in the day). In most cases i much prefer using my S8+.... always on me, doesn't need post pic processing, colours look nicer (ie over saturated) and i can viber or email in it 10 seconds.
These results don't just apply to the S8 but all high end mobile phones.

And this is why I come to GSMA first for my phone reviews: they're thorough!
Finally a review mentions the Field Of View difference on the Xperia. It annoys me that some reviews zoom in to pixel level, see that it's not much different than 12mp shooters and say that they somehow expected more (I'm looking at you Stuff Magazine!) Allowances must be made for the Field Of View and lenses of different cameras when comparing them or you're looking at quite different images - less light hitting a certain percentage of a sensor compared to another because of the lens. To pixel peep as if they're identical in this scenario is pointless - which is what really became apparent in the blind shootout. When you look at the full images in good light, the Xperia is clearly the best: while it doesn't have the noise reduction of the Samsung, the S8 is over exposing nearly every shot and it's getting textures wrong in places (see the shutters).
Each person's USP is unique: mine is camera. For this alone, I'm getting an XZP.
NB: I'm curious what the XZP would do if you brought the MP count down to 12mp at night, handheld. If it follows previous form, the camera will use pixel binning and use a lower ISO by default. Previous Xperia's improved substancially at 8mp for this reason alone.

I think there is a mistake as for Basemark OS 2.0 (which is the most useful combo benchmark for a smartphone) the Xperia is clearly the winner, look here

[deleted post]Actually Samsung is not the winner. I of S7E was in the mix it would be the winner.
Better Screen (useful aspect ratio)
Better battery life
Better fingertip placement.
Pretty much same performance.
