Doogee Mix review: Dress to impress

10 August 2017
We've always tried to maintain an impartial perspective and shy away from bias in our work. Whether that shines through or not is really up to you, our readers to decide. However, we will admit right off the bat that Doogee hasn't really received any significant attention from us in the past. While there are perfectly good reasons for that as well, we still feel compelled to give the Doogee Mix the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks GSM team for this review. And also to all nice people trying to be funny about this one, at least they read it (hopefully) and learned something new about the world around them. I'm from a little poor country with bad government, small salaries and a high rate of unemployment. The device I'm using is a cheap one from a chinese company you probably never even heard of. Still, even though my hardware obviously sucks, thanks to the software I'm doing decent, my device is rooted, has custom recovery and a custom OS, I'm actively using all the best modules of Xposed Framework and probably know more about how my phone works that an average westener with a big wallet do. What I want to say is that the world of smartphones isn't restricted to flagships and rich customers. I'd guess at least 80% of the world is using modest devices according to their income and they make use of the same apps you do and more or less the same features and I dare say enjoy it, even without having crazy framerates in games. Small chinese companies like this one help those people to achieve decent android experience for reasonable cost and as was said by the article they are facing a very fierce competition, so they have to use popular designs and features (and sometimes colors of a questionable taste) to distinguish themselves from the mass of others willing to profit from the very popular market of cheap smartphones. Maybe these smartphones are not so spectacular as new flagships, but they deserve their little place in reviews as well, because that's what lots of people are using and they also deserve to learn about their device of choice and to be able to compare it to the similar products. Sorry for huge comment, just wanted people to look a little bit outside their comfortable box.

Why do they make on screen buttons if there's pretty big bottom bezel? Most of the time it's one more black line at the bottom, like a bezel.

Bezelless phone should not be using black color especially with hardware home key button, it looks old and ugly.

For me, "Samsung ISOCELL brand" does not inspire any confidence. It is only he ones Samsung put on their own phones that are good. The ones they sell to other manufacturers have not performed well.

Right now is the one I'm using. Performance wise is really nice, with solid build and a nice look. It also has a great signal reception, a nice screen and a not that bad battery life.

Camera is still so so. It really got better with last OTA of July, but still fails exposure and focus from time to time, most of it in low light situations. if you just take time, photos comes out acceptable. Accepts Camera2 API but is quite buggy on that. For me, big room to improve here.

Still lots of ground to be better on software side, from battery optimizations, drivers and camera performance. Price/quality ratio, if Doogee tunes it a little more will be good.

Well, this phone has two major flaws for me.
                                      1. The width of the device
                                      2. The weight of it.

The latter being more significant, its so heavy, that I'm actually unable to use it one handed. I'm not sure why it is so heavy.

I have it and it's quite a looker. People at work were curious about it first time i showed it off. And i have a S6 Edge gold as a primary phone which has become too common.
