Nokia 6 review: International flavor

15 August 2017
We finally got round to it and it’s quite like we remember the Nokia 6. This time around though, it’s repackaged for worldwide action and, hopefully, not a déjà vu all over again. We’ll obviously revisit the old review of the China-bound variant, only here we'll focus on the bits that are different. And those are by no means insignificant, who knew.

Anons, 15 Aug 2017processors is only part of SoC, troll. if the SoC sucks,... moreI DO NOT understand why is he a troll, when actually, you clearly are one. Sometimes balance matters. What is the point in having a 625 cpu in a device that will hold on for about 6 Mouths? For trolls, their is something great about that. People who buy Nokia, are buying it for reliability, quality and resistance. Not everybody needs to play duck hunt for six months, then throw away. Their are people that also work for the money, not just some kids who think their parents should buy them this and that;). And one that worked for the money he pais, that one hast to be dung to buy, oppo, moto or whatever low quality counterfeit devices.

because sd430 is inferior to sd625 doesnt make it weak or un usable soc, it has adreno 505 latest gpu with modern features like vulkan, ability to play HEVC videos and more, adreno 505 is equivalent of mali t830, do you want to know all phone with this gpu?

you said people should read the review but i think you are the one who didnt read the review, gsmarena are pleased with display of Nokia 6, not only Gsmarena but all site i did visit they like display of Nokia 6 only you said is low quality panel, do you have source for that?

and they also like camera of Nokia 6, and dont forget now software of Nokia camera is not that advanced, wait when they port lumia camera and you will see magic.

Also Nokia 6 has dolby atmos dual speakers, it blow away competition in same price, if am not mistaken google pixel has same speaker but only one, you can check youtube for dolby atmos tets.

we have seen these few month how fast HMD deliver updates to these phone.

DealBreaker, 16 Aug 2017You live in the past my friend!...Many of us live in the past, if you like to put it that way.
In my office, the few people who have Type-C ports will be begging for a cable, if they forget to bring theirs. But for the others, the one with microusb or the IPhone users would always find some spare cables lying somewhere.
Even in my home, theres only one person with Type-C and every room has 2 chargers with microusb, because all of the little things we have(other than mobile) have microusb port.
It will take some time to switch to Type-C.
Do anyone remember the days of Nokia Chargers vs miniusb? People having Nokia mobiles used to travel to any place without carrying charger, because wherever you go, someone will have it.

Really, its comments like this which help the users decide on phones rather than bashing a manufacturer or telling like "if only this phone had that feature".
I too agree that Lenovo P2 is a great alternative, except build quality, it beats Nokia 6 in every other way.

Anonymous, 15 Aug 2017It would IMHO also been logical. A nokia "6" using a SD6xx.... moreSomeone posted something similar somewhere in Nokia comments page.
It wont work that way. People always dont want to know the SOC. Its not a PC where you decide the PC based on the processor.
What if Qualcomm introdiuces a7x at 4xx series. What if they add 5 and 7 series?
What about 8xx devices with a7x processors?
Later they can even introduce a7x processors at 4xx series.
What if they remove numbering and introduce names like Pro series, Play series etc as before?
We should not depend on the other companies naming scheme.
And Nokia wont have a 4series phone, so then SD4xx wont be used in any Nokia phone.

Anons, 15 Aug 2017who needs reason? all fanboy needs are "nokia" brand on any... moreYes, you are correct. You mentioned all the reasons people need - "build quality", "brand power", "timely update promise", "trusted after sales". They are not non-sense reasons. If you dont need any of them, please buy devices with what you need. But there are people who need them. Dont expect that everyone like you.
There are standards, but they wont tell you how exactly the build should be. For eg, it can tell you the minimum how strong it should be, but it wont limit that it should be this much maximum strong. So you know all devices should atleast have a minimum strength as per standard, but some of them can be stronger than others because why not.
MIUI which is liked by many people in your country, is not liked by many too. Please note that you cannot tell that everyone likes it. I have some of my friends who owned a Mi device, but now moving away from it and one of the main reason is MIUI. And I see you critized only pure android, and you yourself understand that Mi is not providing timely updates.
In your cases, yes Nokia is not better than Samsung, so you yourself didnt compare with Xiaomi or Lenovo here. Samsung is also known for its better build and support and service. In several other peoples, their Nokia have lasted or many years, so they are rating it as most trusted brand.

Anons, 15 Aug 2017processors is only part of SoC, troll. if the SoC sucks,... moreA cheap low-tier SOC doesnt mean the components are low grade. The production are standardized and they wont be producing SOCs with much difference. Mostly the Bluetooth, WiFi, Modem modules would be same with some of the features disabled.
Synthetic benchmark doesnt show anything. It wont tell how fast a device in real world. What is serves is to compare with something you know. For eg, I have a device which is slow, and I see a device which has scored twice as mine, so I would know the n ew device would be able to work fast. But the values themselves dont say anything worth.
The one or two striking features are what the user wants, if a user gets what they want then is fine. Else they wont buy another device from the same manufacturer.
When Motorola, Lenovo, and Xiaomi cant offer good build quality or bug free phones, people are looning for phones from a reputed brand which they can trust. If Xiaomi releases Note 5 similar to Note 4, but with SD435 and much better build quality, I would buy it.

So, to answer ALL ur question, PLEASE read both of the reviews of Nokia 6 by GSMA to MAKE SURE that u are truly a DIE-HARD fanboy who NEVER accepts critics.

does it use the cheapest screen? Yes, eg. Mi Max which have similar price tags but with MILLIONS BETTER SoC, SD650, has better screen readability & color reproduction.

the cheapest camera? no need to say, that's why to hide they "cutting extreme corners" in camera department, they either change the lense or the camera sensor for the Global version which I predict will have higher price tag, with MANY JUSTIFICATION prepared beforehand.

"Nokia chose to move the cost of chipset to other parts(screen, camera, build quality etc) that matters MORE to the customer than a measly upgrade from SD430 to SD625"

like previous troll I commented before, u r also a SMART-ASS FANBOYS which know NOTHING about the GAP of performance & energy-efficiency of SD625 vs. SD430 but tries hard to JUSTIFY the ABSURDLY OVERPRICED Nokia 6!

For starters, u don't even know how FATAL the decision of using SHITTY SoC in android devices, because SoC consist of MANY components, such as CPU, GPU, LTE modems, bluetooth, DSP, and some others.

IF people who u call "haters" said SD430 as SHITTY, it means the WHOLE part in the SoC are noy upto-standard of the asking price of Nokia 6, which is around US$250-300!

FYI, SoC is similar to the brain in human. If the brain is excellent, the people with those brain will be wanted by MANY people.
But in Nokia 6 case, it has SHITTY brain & mediocre abilities, with the ONLY saving grace is its tank-like bodies & timely update promises, which make it a "muscle-brained" no one, in real life, wanted

Nokia made a good choice to use a slower Snapdragon as it makes the phone much cheaper (and honestly a 625 isn't THAT much faster than 430 to justify higher cost). This also allowed them to build a high quality build, typical Nokia, which is something that makes this so great. Smart move.
