Hands-on Nokia 8 review: First impressions

16 August 2017
This is a Nokia phone built by Foxconn for HMD in partnership with Zeiss and Google. Make no mistake, though, there’s Finnish blood running through Nokia 8’s veins. The new leadership tried to resurrect the qualities that were vital to the Nokia brand: quality, simplicity, trust and reliability.

AnonD-145316, 17 Aug 2017My friend and that's why Nokia is the father of innovations... moreAlways On means it's 'always on'. I had Nokia E7 years ago which had an Always On like feature as a screen saver that displayed the time and other information whenever the screen was locked. Glance in Android means the display will not be on all the time but is activated by a motion sensor, and that's not as good as Always On.

When this handset becomes available it could be interesting to make a comparison between the camera on the old Nokia N8 and the new Nokia 8.

AnonD-679970, 17 Aug 2017Judging by a pic of Glance settings in Nokia 8 it seems it'... moreMy friend and that's why Nokia is the father of innovations, their glance screen make use of the sensor core inside the phone, and whenever you pick the phone the display is always on there for you to see the notification you want!. And that's why glance screen has never been a battery hog on Nokia phones, because their always on display implementation has always been the best!! And you can always set it up to time out at the minutes you want when the glance screen is on. Again if you've never owened a Nokia phone before you wont know about all these.

I am a Documentary photographer and I have had a great time with the images and videos from my Lumia 830 the last camera phone to bear the original iconic Nokia logo. https://devrajbandla.photoshelter.com/portfolio/G00001__cP5zx.3M.
I was hopeful that Microsoft would create a remarkable Lumia for photogs like me experimenting with smartphone photography. They messed up Nokia. After a long wait it is heartening to see HMD take up the challenge and produce the Nokia 8.With Zeiss they can't go wrong,I am sure.As you said at the start you wanted a camera phone from Nokia and you got it. I too wanted a great camera phone and I am sure Nokia 8 will be that one.

Nokia 8 has capacitive buttons which means the keyboard will be even bigger. This is what the Google Pixel 2 should have been. Better design and headphone jack. Bezel-less, curved display, water-resistance are mostly gimmicks to me. I rarely use my S7 edge while in water. The S7 edge and S8 are just awkward to hold at texting or gaming.

The added bonus is the microSD slot. Something my Pixel does not have. Add the unlimited Google Photos storage. I can upload even my TV shows and movies on there. That's 2TB of even porn as long as it was uploaded by a Pixel or this Nokia 8. Based on what I actually need, the Nokia 8 fits the bill. Too bad it may never be on Verizon.

I just wished the dual lens was wide-angle or Telephoto. I don't like Huawei dual lens.

I think this phone is going to be great. I think some people are addicted to gimmicks that is why they say there is nothing special about this phone. One of the killer features of this phone is the size. 5is is well built device, I only hope for their sake that they can distribute it globally faster, that is usually the biggest killer of smartphone sales for a lot of companies. It seems only Samsung and Apple are capable of releasing their phones to a large number of countries, that’s one of the reason why they are so ahead of others.

Nokia 8 has glance screen . They somehow managed to get it on lcd where only a part of screen would be active which won't drain battery but they shied off telling how they did it. And in reviews also people are saying that they couldn't find a heat spot. That's called innovation

Nokia had been innovating for almost 20 years. People who are born in the 21st century won't believe what I say because they are simply dumb thinking that Apple is the real innovator!!! Only the 90s people's or better the 80s people will not mind of Apple and what's more, they will say that Apple is the greatest copy maker innovation of all time.
