LG V30 hands-on review: First impressions

31 August 2017
LG’s brief flirtation with OLED gave us the Flex phones, but now it’s a long-term commitment. Yet – surprisingly – it’s not the screen, which covers 82% of the front of the LG V30, that is the star attraction. Instead, the much-improved dual camera is the main focus of this generation.

Rafe Firmani, 31 Aug 2017Can we have a phone with front screen of V30 and HTC u11 li... moreIt won't have mil STD rating then. Way too fragile device

Rafe Firmani, 31 Aug 2017LG V30 may have f/1.6 but..... Camera sensor only 1/3" vs ... moreG6 has the same sensor but still produces image which can compete with s8 and u11

Rafe Firmani, 31 Aug 2017LG V30 may have f/1.6 but..... Camera sensor only 1/3" vs ... moreWell apple use 1/3" like aperture and fans go happy. Point is its great to have bigger one, at least some improvement unlike someone else. But f1.9 for super wide is fantastic news, its like having 2 main cameras already, colors pop out.

Gsmarena you could have atleast showed us floating bar in action and AOD too

5 Mp front camera ?!?! WTF LG !!! Are you guys crazy or what ??? So disapointed and mad, this is beyond my understanding, a powerhouse, the most important flagship in the history of LG and they put an outdated mediocre 5 Mp FFC, I was waiting V30 launching to replace my old Galaxy Note 3, but this is so frustrating, I'll not buy anymore, sadly my second choice is Galaxy S8 !

They should make the wide angle camera default on such a set up. Eager to see how the screen stands up to Samsung, i think this is the first non samsung 2k oled?

Great phone by the looks of it. If I was in the market for a phablet this is what I'd be buying. It's only as wide as a 5.5" 16:9 screen, but for me that's a positive.

For those who never owned lg g2, g3, g4, g5, g6, v10, v20 - don't you think it's strange people who owned these phones mostly didn't bought next lg phone? LG acting good just in sheets, spect, review. But in real life it's a average second class phones manufacturer. They never fixing bugs, never updating apps or UI to next generation. If you have any bug in app - you will have to look for other app to replace it because lg ignoring bugs in own apps. They can update Android version, but never update UI or even fix any annoying bug in it. You can ask any who owns LG phone - how many real updated in phone life they received and what were improved. Few and nothing. LG is only for very undemanding people.

I would definitely buy this phone, given the high price of the note 8.

Can we have a phone with front screen of V30 and HTC u11 liquid glass back..?

A great phone. I love the fact that the main camera has 16 MB and the F value of the wide range camera beefed up. LG got it right in all aspects. I already own the lg g6 which is absolutely superb but completely underrated. I think that this is going to be my next phone. Ideal form factor. Used to be a Note lover but Bixby button and fingerprint scanner put me off.

LG V30 may have f/1.6 but.....
Camera sensor only 1/3" vs 1/2.5" HTC U11
Pixel size is just 1.1uM vs 1.4uM on U11

So aperture ALONE wouldn't much help if camera sensor and pixel size are small!

"fingerprint reader - in an aesthetically pleasing way. We won't name names, but other makers have made an asymmetric mess."

Glad that GMSArena still have the ball to say it.

It now has OLED screen, so finally a new alternative to S8/Note8.
4GB is a shame, will limit the amount of money rationale people will want to pay for this device.

Maybe it will soon start selling on offers around 300 EUR and will become a new workhorse.

These companies are all together in the secret league of making low capacity batteries with high end specs. The 3300mah battery for Note 8 and V30 does speak a lot. I had high hopes in buying this phone, if it had come with a better battery capacity. These guys have been planning so long to sell the chickens without the neck. Trust me. You all are gonna loose big this time..

With the announcement of SG Note 8, i feel underwhelmed and waited for the V30 to come due to its leaks stating it will be great.
Now here's the announcement, and i here i am retracting what i said before.
Im going back to Note 8

Jesus.... why you still talk about HDR screens if its nothing more than another advertising gimmick(3d didnt sell so here we have new "Technology"), that do nothing more than boost contrast and colors on video, by reading its tags that are embedded in video format.
You can do the same manually just by using settings or filters on video player.
End effect will be the same: Video will look over-saturated with HUGE contrast all over the screen.

Every video that I saw in those "HDR" screens where eye hurting contrast bomb that look unnatural. Its have nothing do to with screen hardware, its just another bait for people who like fancy names.
