Another fall, another phablet season. We've already seen what Samsung and Apple have to offer, but maybe Huawei has a trump card ready? We finally get a glimpse of the new devices in the Mate series.

FinnishInquisition, 17 Oct 2017You truly have no idea how that monochrome sensor is used i... moreUnfortunately the Nokia 8 dual-camera setup does not bring more image quality or color or anything else to the table. Just go here, on GSMarena, and use the photo quality compare tool. My old Lumia 950XL takes much, much better pictures than any other phone currently on the market, be it single or dual-camera. Better colour reproduction, more clarity, finer details, you name it.
Although the dual-camera (RGB & monochrome) setups are new and come with lots of potential, unfortunately there are still lots of improvements to be made in order to at least equal the photographic quality of Lumia phones. Which are old and outdated.

The Mate 10 is a great device & easily better than the other Pro & Porsche Design versions (More screen area, QHD vs FHD+,16:9 ratio and front fingerprint scanner and still a better Screen to body ratio than the others, 3.5 mm headphone jack and SD card slot and still much less expensive).

The only things better in the Pro & Porsche Design are more RAM/storage, IP67 protection and the AMOLED screen.

The other goodies such as the impressive front and back camera, the 4000 mAh, the promising Kirin 970 and the Infrared Blaster remain the same for the trio. The lack of Stereo speakers is a minor niggle though.....

But despite the Android 8.0 Oreo, the UI icons are still as pre-historic and dated as ever......

Phones are famous for bringing high resolution at high quality despite small bodies. Its just shame they not bring anything new to photography unlike apple or lg, just quality. Feels a bit like sony with its hw.

the best oversharpened camera phone. trees and leaves look quite natural.
samsung should learn from huawei and leica about how to oversharpen trees and grasses without destroying the quality.

Cod3rror, 16 Oct 2017Having a monochrome sensor is such a waste! Even the zoom i... moreYou truly have no idea how that monochrome sensor is used if you say that. Unlike LG or Apple where the secondary camera is just a second stand-alone camera, the output from the monochrome sensor on Nokia and Huawei are used to improve resolution and light sensitivity of the colour output image. In other words, it's true computational photography, unlike the other solutions.

Manufacturers have always been able to slap a second camera on the back, so doing something like slapping a normal and a wide-angle camera on the back is nothing new or impressive. It hasn't been until recently that we've had enough processing power on the phones to do computational photography though. In other words, Huawei and Nokia are at the forefront, while Apple, LG and Samsung are taking a shortcut and rely on consumers not having a clue why smartphones started having more cameras on the back. They're cashing in on ignorance.

Google on the other hand have achieved computational imaging with a single set of lenses (but a split sensor). Arguably even more impressive.

Imperator Neubaticus, 17 Oct 2017If you want actual photography, get a respectable dslr came... moreWrong. Smartphones have completely replaced point-and-shoot cameras, and therefore also need to behave like a quality camera. Besides, extremely few people own a DSLR, and even fewer would carry one around wherever they go. A smartphone camera need to be good enough to fill the role of a proper PaS camera for those who don't own or have a DSLR with them. Thinking smartphone photography is only for social media is frankly a bit daft.

nice phones, especially the mate 10,shame for the 1440p resolution, really not needed on these small screens, waste of battery time really.don't quite like the all glass design, not so solid and so resistant in time like metal back.a mate 10 with fullhd resolution would be the perfect smartphone.oh,and also with dt2w function.
anyway, good phone, but not worth 250 euro,i am keeping my mate 9 for now.nothing really worth upgrading,

Just want to point out that it's actually the Mate 10, not the Pro that has the larger screen.

                                  Mate 10's 5.9" 16x9 screen = 14.87 sq. in.
                                  Mate 10 Pro's 6" 18x9 screen = 14.40 sq. in.

From the article... "The Pro model packs a bigger screen into a narrower body"

Nothing is worth upgrading from Mate9 to this Mate10, so disappointed.
I'll buy it if it has wide angle lens as the second camera and one more thing make me disappointed is Huawei still doesnt bring DT2W feature back, it's missed from Mate9 as well, in Mate8 it's working perfectly. Shame on you

Was really looking forward to this device, but the AMOLED screen only being 1080 kills it for me. My last 3 phones have been 2k, and you can tell the difference. I'm not going backwards for the amount of $ here. On to the next option.
