Huawei Mate 10, 10 Pro and 10 Porsche Design hands-on review

16 October 2017
Another fall, another phablet season. We've already seen what Samsung and Apple have to offer, but maybe Huawei has a trump card ready? We finally get a glimpse of the new devices in the Mate series.

"Much like on the Huawei P10 Plus, the RGB camera now has OIS, which is a step forward from the Mate 9"

Mate 9 had no optical stabilization for RGB and monochrome cameras??

You think getting rid of the Microsd slot and 3.5mm jack makes a phone premium? Shucks.. Designers at Huwaei seriously need some help.

Better to get the mate 9 Porsche Design. Better resolution screen, same 256gb memory and fingerprint scanner at the front. It looks nicer than this year's too.

Mate 10 Pro is an animal. Best battery life between top brands, great looks, big screen, top spec Kirin 970 and PROVEN quality.
              Compare this to Note 8.
First, Samsung quality is very, very debatable after Note 7 fiasco.
Second, battery is a joke compared to 4000 Mah monster in Huawei.
Third, nobody uses S-Pen. It is just a gimmick. Finally, nobody needs QHD resolution, also another gimmick.
If you say "but QHD is for VR", I will say that VR technology is another gimmick. Nobody will use VR sets, it will not last, it is not natural puting those sets on your head.
AR is a whole different category, I can see big potential there. VR will soon become a thing of the past, like Sony MiniDisc or Liverpool Premiership title

Who needs QHD on small 5-6 inch mobile screen? Just if someone says it is good, it doesn't needs to be.
Huawei was and still is smart enough to stay away from this nonsence, especially when there is absolutely no difference to a naked eye between FHD and QHD.

Wait I'm confused. Does the Pro have a hybrid SD card slot or not? In the hands on review it says it hasn't, but in the technical details it says it has?

2 lame phones and a Porsche-logo-so-you-pay-$500-more phone. Huawei is so far from flagship territory the company keep copying last year's design

Wow, they didn't even try with the Porsche Design model this time around. What a let down.

vrvly, 16 Oct 2017May be partly true but not entirely, see they do not boast ... moreThat may be true, I haven't seen those comparisons myself. But tone is not the same as colour saturation. A camera may be tuned to give warmer colour tones without oversaturating the colours, or having a sensor that more quickly saturates its red subpixels may give a colder tint to the image.

I guess we'll have to wait for the proper reviews to come out to see more in-depth photography tests and comparisons.

Sony's colors are not so saturated in flagships as S8 but still looks more warm...

Having a monochrome sensor is such a waste! Even the zoom is better. Wide angle lens is the best.

vrvly, 16 Oct 2017Shots looks perfect, almost no noise but colors do not pop ... moreYou may be used to the extremely oversaturated shots of Samsung or the newest iPhone. Leica has always been about keeping colours and noise natural, instead of aggressive sharpening to reduce noise, or oversaturating to make colours pop for social media, but making the captures useless for actual photography.
