Huawei Mate 10 review

28 October 2017
The fall may as well be the season of phablets. Apple, LG and Samsung are the usual suspects but Huawei wants in too – as a front-runner, mind you, not an also-ran. Like its illustrious rivals, Huawei is also yielding to the pressure and the new Mate 10 is trying hard to please the fickle crowd.

The Mate 10 is nice, but I am liking the Mate 10 Pro even more. Huawei is doing a really, really god job with its flagships and Honor sub-brand, honestly.

Bunch of battery tests on YouTube and this phone can't even beat an s8+ which has a much SMALLER battery and BIGGER screen.

Don't get the black version of the Mate 10. Day 3 the paint already peeled off on the side of the phone.

A bit of disappointment to see that SOC's performance numbers.
Firstly, I thought number of transistors count in Kirin 970 could help to come near to Apple's A10/A11, but actually i m wrong. Apple will sit indisputable with their current chip even if they dont update them for next 2 to 3 years.. (dot)

Disappointing battery life regardless of the huge battery... and all those fake battery saving features didn’t help either... SHAME

Anonymous, 29 Oct 2017Its not a feature as you state. The locking feature is mean... moreOnce u own huawei/honor phones, u will know that they are settings to solve that problem. Its just huawei like that features to be on by default.

AnonD-708970, 29 Oct 2017I did not know that. So when its locked how does it behave?... moreYup once u lock it wont close until ram used (which for me never happens). I own Honor 8 pro, which has 6gb of ram and its always 3.5+ gb ram free. Dont own OP so cant compare. I choose my apps which will be locked and which will be closed to preserved the battery life.

The problem in the video is more to do with more rom optimization to be done on the Mate 10. Apps don't close down in other Huawei or Honor phones. Its a new Kirin 970 chipset and new Android Oreo and so bit more to do in optimizing.

No reload unless phone is out of ram? If you could compare with other androids is it any different? Have you been using OP/phones running Oxygen os?

I wonder how ios manages to be so good with so little ram/free ram. Like my current test object (iphone 7 plus) with all my apps opened I almost never see a reload and even if it happens its smooth as butter. I am currently stuck on ip7+ just because i sold op5 because i wanted to switch to lg v30 but i never expected v30 h930 nowhere to be found 2 months after it was announced so I took chance on ip7+ considering its price at the moment (sold op5 and bought new ip7+ with 80eur extra). iOS has evolved a lot and there many great things about it although overall i prefer android more, but then again only few android phones carry similar premium feel combined with good optimization and great camera..my last phones in no particular order s6, edge 7+, mi5, op3t, op5, ip+7..i must say that OP seems to be the best optimized android phone, but OP does not have its own identity..

Ram management seems awful on mate 10 (see comparison with note 8 which has lagwiz and even with it it still owns mate 10). Reloads on every single app..

AnonD-145316, 28 Oct 2017Poor battery really???? Do you even understand what you are... more87hr Endurance Rating is excellent already for a smartphone, but the reason why he said that maybe because it have larger battery than its competitors, and yet the Endurance Rating is almost the same as some of its competitors with smaller batteries. If u look at the MATE 9 and MATE 9 PRO, both are having 4000mAh, same goes to the MATE 10 series. From that, I didn't see any improvements with battery life, even with a much efficient chipset. But, I wouldn't think that way, I think that the KIRIN 970 is still much more efficient than KIRIN 960. I told my father to take note of the battery for a test on his HUAWEI P10 PLUS a few months back. 7am to 9pm, 23% left, moderate usage. That can give u around a day like what I said. If that is the case, then the KIRIN 970 would have a better battery life in my assumption, since it have a newer manufacturer process, which is much more efficient that its predecessor. He should not only look at this, he should look at day to day usage in his own experience too
