Huawei Mate 10 Pro review

03 November 2017
Instead of marching in lockstep, the Huawei Mate 10 series will be chasing each other from one place to the next, quite unlikely to catch up except in a select few regions - if any at all. It’s not a parade then, it’s a pursuit and therefore more exciting. So, which one would you pick? The super-sharp Mate 10 or the have-it-all-but-not-quite Mate 10 Pro? The former had its primetime slot already, it's now the Pro's turn to take the spotlight.

Sort by:

Every flapship must have IP58 and also IP68, IP67 is mediocre, especially when you use it more years you will know it.

"We pointed the Mate 10 Pro toward different objects - pets (cats and dogs), trees, sunsets, mountains, food, people, text, among others. And the camera recognized immediately what's in the viewfinder and adjusted the settings accordingly. We did the same with an Xperia XZ1 and its Superior Auto, but it was successful only in the most common scenes - sunset, city landscape, text". Lmao

if you're gonna sell a device without a 3.5mm jack, at least have the decency to box in wireless earbubs as a standard.

I demand my stuff to be good. People seem to stop demanding and started accepting everything. That's why companies get away with throwing out features we've been using for years.
I won't accept it, call it whining if you want. Just remember, that accepting reality never made it any better. Knowing that it's bad and changing it did.

If you can afford the phone then you can also afford bluetooth earphones...I can. If you can't then stop moaning about something you'll never own.

            See the problem now?

Anonymous, 04 Nov 2017Yea "sometimes". The probability of people listening to mus... moreYou still don't get the point.
The point is the manufacturers are cutting out features we've been using for years. They do it with no other reason than force us to buy new stuff, meaning more money for them. if we allow that they will do the same thing that happened in the gaming industry.
First we got a small elements cut off and sold to us as DLCs (which were usually free earlier). Then they introduced microtransactions, saying they won't change your experience. Now those "microtransactions" are essential part of the game progression system.

I am not "nitpicking", the issue is here, even if just a minority has it. And if we allow that, then even Samsung and LG won't put a headphone jack into their phones. Everyone will be forced to go wireless. All of our still good and working accessories will become useless, simply because we didn't say no to manufacturers actions. If something is irrelevant to you, doesn't mean it is for someone else. And a headphone jack won't hurt you, even if you are fully wireless. BT is still there.

shame no 3,5mm jack wireless charging or sdscard slot, would have been a killer competitior for samsung otherwise :/

Gosh, so many moaning about the missing 3.5mm jack. Just get damn bluetooth earphones.... if it's that critical to listen to music and charge the phone at the same time. This is my next phone for sure...brilliant battery life and excellent screen color accuracy and dependable camera with good dynamic range. Don't care about expandable storage or gaming on a mobile.

Anonymous, 04 Nov 2017Yea "sometimes". The probability of people listening to mus... moreWell, the last time I had to sit in a bus for about 8 hours straight - I listened to music and did a quick top-up for my phone at the same time, as my phone allows that luxury to happen. In a full bus with screaming kids sitting near me, I really didn't want to be without music. :-)

With all these ridiculously fast-charging phones with good batteries I've owned starting from the ancient Nexus 6, I rarely need to top-up the battery like that if I start the day with a full charge, but anyway - not a worthless, unnecessary feature for me either.

The probability of people listening to music sticking themselves to the wall plug when battery is 1%, is minuscule. Just take a 1 hour break and your phone should be charged by then or if you were so much of music headed person than you would already have a wireless earphone anyway or streamed onto your wireless speakers or you would have got the LGV30 or some other standalone music centric device. But no your just nitpicking imaginary scenarios with no real significance in real life.

And your analogy is flawed which is about problem with location of the camera being two different sides and the difficult with that, and not about someone being adamant to take a selfie when the battery is 1% and so one wants a separate pair of selfie camera that has its own battery so that you can take a selfie even when battery is 1%.

Anonymous, 04 Nov 2017Mate 9 pro is only 2mm taller while 0.5mm wider. In additio... moreFor me personally it is quite painful. Sometimes I need a charge when I'm listening to music. Can't do it with the dongle, need a completely new adapter when there's no headphone jack.

But think about it differently. What would you say if all of the major companies decided to throw out the selfie camera? You can still make selfies with the back camera, and you'll take an even better photo because of better sensors, lenses, dual camera systems etc. But what about video chat, Skype or some other stuff? Well, there's an accessory for only $99, that will use mirrors to bend your image to the rear camera.
To be honest, there was a case for the example I made, in the past. No one liked it. Everyone liked their selfie cameras, just like many people still like the analog headphone jack. Introducing a new standard shouldn't mean throwing away the old one.

Yes, it has always been a month behind in security patches (compared to Pixels), but still - monthly updates for me, almost like with my old Nexus 6. Very weird, I expected NOT to get updates or at least not this often. I guess Huawei is really trying to improve their update-game, which is obviously much-needed knowing their history on the matter.
