OnePlus 5T review

20 November 2017
The OnePlus 5T is the mid-season substitute to the company's flagship (and, as of late, only) smartphone. The T doesn't bring radical changes - on the contrary; it's a minor update to help the 5 stay in fashion and, as a side effect, why not spark up buzz right in time for holiday shopping.

Virtually every flagship phone sporting a water and dust proof IP67/IP68 costs a lot more than OP5T. If one plus charged around $ 700- $900, then tge phone would definitely sport an IP67/68 water and dust protection, not to say a 2K AMOLED screen

Anonymous, 21 Nov 2017Im not one plus troll I’m not using even one plus lol. But ... moreAs if it were very important to open an application one second faster or one second slower when the OP customers usually lose more time benchmarking than all the time it's phone can save them in it's whole life. And add then the time losed watching speed comparatives and strutting in front of friends.

Beats all the popular phones but is behind Sony's xz premium in terms of speed and fluidity.

Anonymous, 21 Nov 2017Im not one plus troll I’m not using even one plus lol. But ... moreDid you ever used such phones or your friends hav them? I'm pretty sure - never. Otherwise you'd never say that things. OnePlus is over. There is nothing now to compare others in 5t. Even price. If you used 150-200$ phones - OnePlus maybe can feel like something amazing. But hold Xiaomi, Honor, Zte phones in your arms. They are better in quality and design and costs much cheaper. OnePlus good only in marketing, stoling data, decline warranty and - yes, paid bots, trolls and reviews. And it's ridiculous how people think these fake numbers tells about phone. Look ar screen resolution first. It's low. That's why we can see high framerate in tests. Use SGS8 and reduce resolution - framerate will be not worse. Just OP tricks again for uneducated people.

Well for a SAME price S8 is bringing headphones included in the box, just like 200€ more expensive LG v30...and you should mention that to in final conclusion..

In the camera comparison tool, in the good light color poster, have a look at the circle below the "£10" in the top left corner. It captures all the tiny circles of the original bill in AMAZING detail. Much more so than the Pixel 2, iPhone 8+/X, Note8 or even the Lumia 950, which came closest so far. I mean, the camera captures real detail, and does not artificially create edges by oversharpening, like the Samsung's tend to do. This alone speaks in favour of the chosen dual camera setup.
Even in the low light color poster, a lot of detail is retained, though the blurring+sharpening effects are more evident. The Pixel 2 image are softer but look less processed, the iPhone X image has higher contrast and better gradients but less detail, and the Note8 image is perfectly sharp, yet does not have more detail (look at the map), and the colours are rathr dull. All in all, I think this dual camera setup has clear strengths, though it may not be as flexible as arrangements with a telephoto lens.

From 4.6 stars of the OnePlus 5 review to 4.2 stars for OnePlus 5T. That's does not sound great for a "upgrade".

Lack of SD card is a bummer as is the lack of IP ratings.

But more importantly, the 3.5 mm jack is alive. Good battery endurance too. Great lean software although Oreo would have been more welcome.

That's 2 manufacturers (iPhone X and OnePlus 5T) taking Samsung's AMOLED and getting superb sunlit legibility. I guess the S9 has no excuse now to produce a 5.0+ score.

It is also interesting to see how powerful the SD821 in the OP 3T is compared to the OP 5T. I don't know whether that is down to benchmark cheating by the former.

The Weather interface is beautiful. Almost like Monument Valley.

The camera department is confusing. The Bokeh's in the Portrait mode are good, but they could have been achieved with an additional Telephoto lens too. On top pf losing the nifty lossless zoom, the low-light images aren't much better either. There's hardly any difference in the quality. The Note8's image is much better, while the Pixel 2 performs similarly albeit with more noise. Poor panoramas. Portraits look great, while selfie portraits look truly a class apart from the competitions, more likely due to wider FoV.

That is one of the the strength of one plus brand. For OP5 also camera was very bad particularly for video recording but they released update for software stabilization and it's one of the best. So they will update camera to its full potential without a doubt. 6 months to work on a single model is more than enough.

OnePlus learned the best from Apple marketing. They are not just copied design - they promote the same. Wireless charging? No, it's slow, use expensive accessories supporting proprietary dash charge. SD card? Let's imagine some "heatings" or other nonsenses. What will hou say about low resolution of screen? FHD+ and oentile gives HD resolution in fact. What will say OnePlus now? Nobody will notice such tiny pixels?
Ok, maybe "flagship" from OnePlus don't need flagship features. But why it's so expensive? I will explain. You spending a lot for bots, trolls and paid reviews. That's the point.

The mate 10 is a better phone. More compact, 16:9 display for proper big screen usage, front finger print, expandable memory, QHD resolution, better battery (87hr gsmarena endurance rating), flagship camera, flagship performance, Android Oreo. All for 630$.

If you want a more cheaper phone, wait for the Honor V10 releasing end of this month that will destroy the One plus 3T.
