HTC U11+ review

27 November 2017
HTC U11+ could have been the next big Pixel, but it just wasn't meant to be. Instead, it became the next squeezable HTC flagship fully equipped to compete with Google's XL sequel. Underdog or not, the HTC U11+ has the dog tags of a fighter.

acemang, 28 Nov 2017never understood gsmarena battery tests..they are way off p... moreWell, GSM Arena does test every single phone the same way, so the battery life results are easy to compare between devices. So far, they haven't been far off what it comes to my phones and their endurance ratings compared to my personal real-life usage experiences.

Only one of my past phones (One M8, yuck!) that they got a better result than my previous phone (Nexus 6, yummy!) performed worse in real-life and the Nexus got about 2-3 hours of SOT more per single charge, while the endurance rating would suggest the exact opposite. I know what kind of a battery life to expect from my phone after I've read GSMA's review of it and I can compare it to my last phone. Current phone (Mate 9, SOT about 9.5 hours without battery savings on) has a better battery life than the Nexus did; that's not a surprise as the endurance rating is higher too.

Of course, the way you use your phone differs from mine, and it could change things up a bit. But it's not like the One M8 could ever outlast the Mate 9 as the endurance rating difference is too big for that. :-) Within reasonable differences, yes - it could've been a different story.

Disappointing battery life and screen is too dull for a flagship...:-(

Anonymous, 28 Nov 2017What do you disagree with? It's just facts. 6h SOT is barel... moreSo you're saying that you use your phone for 17 hours everyday and it lasts you all day? What you're talking is nonsense. Either you're really rich and don't have to go to school or work, or you're just trolling with me here. Anyways, I can manage to get 10 hours of SOT if I just used WhatsApp and browse the internet.

Also, if you don't understand how people use their phones, please tell me to let you understand. When I say it was 17 hours day I meant the phone stayed away from the charger for 17 hours, in that 17 hours LTE was always on, which means that the stand by time of the P10 Plus is also fantastic. 6 hours and 30 minutes is the amount of time the screen was on (alaways at 60% or higher). So yeah, my original comment still stands.

Mark, 28 Nov 2017Are you using single or dual sim?I'm using the dual SIM version, but I'm using one SIM card.

TheProperGentleman, 28 Nov 2017I disagree with you. 6 hours of SOT for a 17 hours day is e... moreWhat do you disagree with? It's just facts. 6h SOT is barely ~ 1/3 of a 17-hour day.

And GSMarena supposedly did achieve 8+ hours and that's one of the worst results they've get. It's usually 10h+. So if their tests are unrealistic (And they are), it's not because they are underestimating the battery. You didn't get more than 8h, did you?

AnonD-521587, 28 Nov 2017How is it possible that it has Terrible battery life with s... morei really don't know how they do the tests, but i guess they don't disable all background processes and services to check only for hardware/battery performance. htc u11 have lots of google services running on background to help improve day to day experience. not to mention the alexa and ok google always on feature from the 4 mics. if i disconnect most of services i don't use, i've at least 2 days battery. but with all services on and constant notifications happening, battery ofc will not be the same. but even with all factory defaults services i've more than 1 day with moderate to heavy use. still i recommend anyone to improve battery life, disconnect what you dont use. its a 5m job to get more 10-40% battery life every day.

Nick, 28 Nov 2017@gsmarena, guys you need to help us here understand, cause ... morego see more reviews of the device...a reviewer is just that..a person.....it's not because it's on the internet it's better than mine or yours...

Anonymous, 28 Nov 2017Well SOT of 6h is obviously not a full day. And according t... moreI disagree with you. 6 hours of SOT for a 17 hours day is excellent if you consider that I'm always in LTE. My S8+ can't get me through a whole day like the P10 Plus does. Even in shorter days. You should also know that I run the S8+ in 1080p and the P10 Plus in QHD. Not to mention the fact that I always crack up the brightness to 60% or higher. So yeah, my comment still apply, don't throw all your confidence in the battery test.

YalokIy, 28 Nov 2017If they fix the battery, then it's a great device.if you only watch a review and make an conclusion about a device your not doing the correct analises. go to youtube and watch other users with htc u11+ telling how their battery is fantastic. (i've one htc u11, and i can tell you it's not great...is fantastic). but hey, i'm just a normal user with the phone for the past 5 months..not 1 week, what i know about it right?

                    Big Battery & S835......What's wrong with HTC???? It's even worse than U Ultra( Small Battery & S821 ). I can't believe this !!!!

When ... morei bet you never had an htc u11 to say that. i can say my htc 10 battery life is not great (1 day use at best still better than my preview blackberry or iphone phone). htc u11 i usually have 2 days with normal use. if i put it to the limites, 1 day with 30% still when i go to bed. if thats not great don't know what its....

AnonD-718914, 28 Nov 2017Dear gsmarena team, the HTC U11+ review is great as usal. B... morenever understood gsmarena battery tests..they are way off people use. i'm a app developer and i've an htc u11, and the battery is fantastic. never had an issue using the phone all day testing my apps. never worried about the battery at all on this device...other user that have the htc u11+ are bragging how strong is the battery. gsmarena tells the opposite. what i know for 5 months using my htc u11, battery rocks. kinda makes me sad seeing bad reviews this days. people are not dumb and can check other reviewers to make their opinion.

Dear gsmarena team, the HTC U11+ review is great as usal. But in one point im not d´accord with you: the batter life. I have this phone now since one week and I can honestly say, that this phone has a better battery life than a Samsung S8(+) or a Mate 10 Pro (which I also owned). So if you review unit is ok, someone make a mistake in the testing procedure. I got 6-8 hours SOT with 3 mail accounts, permanent sync on, wifi on, 4G LTE also on....I do a lot with my phones..with the HTC I have alwayws around 30-40 percent left at the end of the day. So something must be wrong with your review unit, this result is an fiasco for an mobile phone with that battery capacity! You have to make a second test with a diffent review unit!

@gsmarena, guys you need to help us here understand, cause there's an elephant sitting in the room and almost all the comments pointed at him. Basically the u11+ has the same cpu, ram and storage as the u11, but 20% beeffier battery, slightly bigger screen and oreo onboard. Correct me if i'm wrong but I would have expected better battery life, similar to the s8+ or even better. The results are puzzling, 8 hours of web browsing and thta with a screen that tops out at 300 nits, I honestly don't understand it. Btw I had the m9 back in the days and it was topping around 4xx nits, which was a bit on the low end and you could immediately tell it. Pffffft now the u11+ is on my xmas shopping list and what i do hope is you had a deffective or pre production unit on your hands.
