My personal favorite is Mate 10 Pro. And I'm not surprised to see Sony being mentioned multiple times when they talk about disappointing phones.

Anonymous, 28 Dec 2017Well now it is my turn. Best phone? It is Sony XZ Premium. ... moreCome on! That is too much. I am an avid Sony fan, but to state that XZ Premium is better than iPhone X and Note 8 is an overstatement.

It definitely is one of the best phones of the year, but not the best. It doesn't deserve all the criticism it gets from the Sony haters, specially since their biggest complaints are about bezels and boxy design. But that doesn't mean we, Sony fans should worship it.

As for the editors, Sony's design is fine. Not everything needs to be rounded piece of slab. Choice to have something different is good. That should not be criticized.

Well now it is my turn. Best phone? It is Sony XZ Premium. Why? Because it is blazing fast. It won't lag. It has 4K screen. Worst phone? I think it is iPhone X. Why? Because it is failure and very expensive phone with too many issues like green lines and battery cover issue and it won't work in cold whether. What I want to see in 2018 - cool design - better battery life - no heating issue - blazing fast UI - better camera - huge storage and ram like 256GB storage with 512GB micro sd card and 8GB or even 16GB ram. Merry Christmas guys.

it would have been nice if you have also included the phones like a list for every reviewer, so that it would be easy to get the phones list instead of reading the whole article.

A quote from a certain person:
"I don't care about design, bezels, if the screen is AMOLED or not nor price."
          Then,
"So my picks are the Google Pixel 2 XL, the iPhone X and the Huawei Mate 10 Pro."
He doesn't care, but his pick is basically everything that he doesn't care

That aside, i agree with Paul disappointments, and also for Sony to start stepping their game

Sad thing that Sony didn't get mention of it's performance and update reliability

Wonder when will they finally realize the fake sky colors the Pixel 2 "captures"? They often are far far far away from what it looks like in reality, not to mention the same tone in countless photos where it looked completely different IRL.

I appreciate GSM arena for their honesty and for being very pro active reviewing phones from all over the world. Too many sites review the same stuff yet GSM goes above and beyond. Thank you and happy holidays to all.

imRGZ, 28 Dec 2017Did any of the OEMs stop Sony from putting their best foot ... moreThey are a little off from the competition that said

Nobody seems to be talking about a nifty little feature called the IR emitter which most of the manufacturer's have junked.
That said, people need to realize that in the plethora of phones available, this is one hardware feature that sets your device apart from the rest of the crowd.
Couple it with a decent software (like in Honor 8 Pro) and you have a phone capable of controlling the AC when your boss asks somebody to increase the temperature in the middle of the meeting and hey - no surprises, the remote is nowhere to be found.

I have always seen the IR emitter as one of the Must Have features on a phone I buy. Second comes Gorilla glass protection for the screen along with the 3.5 mm jack and Dust/Water Proofing come third. Stereo Speakers would be nice too.

The CPUs, GPUs, and cameras will continue to improve over time. 128 GB of internal storage is good enough for me, 256 GB would be better - provided it did not blow a hole in my pocket. With this, expandable storage is not required. Higher capacity batteries, basically some new tech which packs in more juice without adding to the bulk would be a boon.

So, the wish list for 2018 would be -
                  1. IR Emitter
                  2. Gorilla Glass protection and 3.5 mm jack
                  3. Dust/Water Proofing
                  4. Stereo Speakers

The rest can all take their due course...

They dropped it to use a smaller sensor.

One thing i really wanna see in my 2K18 flagship is to have a larger camera sensor. Like the Pixel 2/XL have sensor size 1/2.6 with 1.4u pixel size, its still awesome but imagine it with 2/3 or 1/1 sensor size and pixels will be much larger. That would be a whole different level of phone camera photography.

Anonymous, 28 Dec 2017You should be thanking Sony for putting little efforts out ... moreDid any of the OEMs stop Sony from putting their best foot forward? No. I am not living in an imaginary world to think like if Sony puts their best effort, then there won't be any Apple/Samsung/HTC.,. LOL. And more over Sony is the one who desperately needs to up their game to stay relevant to the present day's expectations from a flagship smartphone..

What I'm looking for at 2018?
                          1. Under screen FPS on HTC U12 (unlikely)
                          2. iPhoneX bezel on U12 (impossibility)
                          3. Bundled hi-res BT speakers on the retail Box.

So I wish for things unreal lol.

                              To Mr. Prasad,

Blackberry KeyOne is for people like me who want a physical keyboard. Yes, the number of people wanting PKB is very small, but it is still there. So, don't say 'who this is for anyway'.

And, if I read correctly, you also said about Pixel 2 not having 18:9 ratio; there are still people who like the 16:9.

I totally get it with the Pixel 2 XL. I have owned a Note 8 for some time and I am quite fond of it but since picking up a Black and White 2 XL, I have not touched my Note for going on 3 weeks now and even more surprising is the fact that I don't particularly want to.

I have had no issues with my Pixel 2 xl and the screen is absolutely fine, yes, it does not "pop" like the Note 8 but it is still damn good, I have it on saturated all the time and it is close. It is simply the best android experience any android lover can have. I also found out playing around with it that it has face recognition....Sure it could be better, I would like the headphone jack reinstated and maybe 256GB internal storage, then again, every phone has a few things you probably have to compromise on. Doubt I will be giving up or selling my Pixel 2 xl for some time...until the 3 drops! The iPhone X was too much of a compromise, I ordered it but asked for a refund without even picking it up from Carphone, the whole experience of iTunes and locked down eco system brought back memories of why I stopped buying iPhones after the 6 plus!

The most painful things happen to phone is the manufacturers are just rounding the screen corners for no reason in the name of trend. That's bullshit. Make phone corners round not the screen corners.

IMO the best designed phone of 2017 has to be the OnePlus 5T and not just for the so called "budget" category but it overall has the best design :

It's made out of anodized aluminum which is one of the strongest materials used in phones and much more practical than the fragile glass used everywhere .
The fingerprint sensor is placed in a location human beings can reach and is made out of a ceramic material that is basically unscratchable (according to Jery)
The display is one of the brightest out there and the fact that is "only 1080p" is nothing but a plus to battery life and performance .
The software experience is very good (next best thing after a google pixel) , no useless gimmicks or bloatware which makes the phone a speed champ .
The only 2 not so "best in class" things about this phone are camera and speaker but they are still much better than many similar priced phones . A oneplus 5t with google pixel camera and speakers would probably be the absolute perfect phone of 2017 .

I agree with most of the reviewers on the worst designed phone of the year: iphone 8 .
This phone brings absolutely nothing interesting other than performance (and even that limited by the outrageous 2gb of RAM in 2017) .
Literally only Apple could sell a phone with : 4.7inch below FHD resolution, 2gb of RAM, 1821 mAh !!! battery in 2017 for over 800 EURO and get away with it .
