Apple iPhone X long-term review

18 January 2018
The introduction of Face ID and the removal of the Home button has resulted in a paradigm shift in the way we interact with our iPhones. Three of us have been using the iPhone X since launch and this long-term review covers what the iPhone X is like to live with on a day to day basis and we are ready to answer what's good and what's bad about it from a different perspective.

elpparelppaesustoidi, 24 Jan 2018Well, Sir Crapplefan, try to expand your mind's ecosystem ,... moreWhy would you want to unlock your phone with a photo of yourself? I think you have too low standards and dont demand much from your smartphone, seems its just a toy to you. I totally understand why you cant have an iPhone but try to look at it from a non-toy point of view, users who want a phone to just do its job without having to go through a ton of tweeks, the time you use to play with your phone is time we dont have. If youre really an experienced android user it must be easy to see why its not useful to everyone. I sold my last Android phone the same day i got it (a few months back only), when the google folder had more than 99 new notifications i simply didnt have time to go through with it, android is so high maintenance its impossible to use for professional users with real jobs.

Thank you for this article. I was searching specifically for a long term review & found this one. Being on the fence about whether I wanted to upgrade specifically because of the lack of Touch ID I found this article exactly what I needed. Looks like my next iPhone will have to be the 8plus but I sure hope Apple considers implementing Touch ID somehow into whatever replaces the X.

Review was nicely done. Non-biased. I actually agree with most of the things. Especially the annoying things. I mean, overall the phone is not bad. Just that at least let me turn off the home indicator. I love playing games and god is that home indicator irritating.

elpparelppaesustoidi, 24 Jan 2018Well, Sir Crapplefan, try to expand your mind's ecosystem ,... moreNope. A FP on the back and fake non-secure facial recognition like Samsungs are not good enough.

Apple's Facial Recognition works really well and I like it better than even a front FP scanner like on my old Edge S7, in the dark or with the light on.

AnonD-1825, 20 Jan 2018"Face-ID for example doesn't do very well in ill-lit spaces... moreWell, Sir Crapplefan, try to expand your mind's ecosystem ,unlike iOS, and learn that the Samsung's facial recognition CAN get better with software tricks and assistance. And by the way, we don't actually need that as the ONLY or PRIMARY option, heard of a finger print scanner? Yeah yeah awkward position and all, but at least we have one. You're defensive cause you know the fact yourself that a FP scanner is WAY better than facial ID. I don't see any IP 7 and below users defending the way you did mate.

So to sum up all niggles could be solved by not buying iPhone 10 but just getting yourself an iPhone 6s.

Im sorry but this phone is absolute garbage very overpriced
it looks like a kids phone, Amoled screen has been on Samsung's for years
Android phones gives the user a Customizable experience
Adding a new theme having a specific apps button, far superior cameras than I-phone's and the design of android devices change every couple years
i can get Similar Spec's in a phone half the price of this

Hi, I’ve seen a couple of posts about this issue and I am having the same problem. When trying to take a portrait picture using the rear camera I always get the message “move further away” Force closing the camera app, turning the phone off or force resetting it has NO effect. However, resetting all settings does bring the functionality back for a short period of time before the fault re-occurs. I have also performed a DFU reset of the phone, again, this restores functionality for a short time before it fails again. I would assume this is therefore a software bug, but it does not seem widespread enough - although there was a patch in a recent update to do with the telescopic focus... I’m wondering if this broke the feature for me? Either way, where do I go from here... I suspect the Genius Bar will say, reset again, but that gives me functionality for up to 1 week... this is not really acceptable for a £1000 phone. Any ideas?

The tech itself doesn't care If you are in dark, pitch-black or daylight If you are using it right, it will work every time just like your tv remote.

In a follow-up video, the brothers explain that when the second brother initially tried and failed to authenticate with Face ID, he entered in the device’s passcode numerous times. In turn, the iPhone X’s software was essentially instructed that the second brother was, in fact, the first. Consequently, Face ID began updating its stored Face ID profile to account for the second brother’s distinguishing features". http://bgr.com/2017/11/06/iphone-x-face-id-brothers-fail-explanation/

I actually own the X, why people are perhaps claiming this I assume because at very low light / pitch black your generally lying down with the phone at your stomach so yes it’s not perfect but it’s far from bad and far from annoying and certainly not a deal breaker like every ipX hater makes out . the pros far outweigh the cons and hey at least it something from the norm..
