Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus review

23 January 2018
So, no more Redmi Notes eh? The Redmi 5 Plus should clearly have been the Note 5, a successor of the Redmi Note 4, but Xiaomi wanted a fresh start. The fifth generation is trying to shake things up and the new look obviously called for a new name. So, Xiaomi retired the Note brand promoting the Plus from a mere qualifier to a proper name. The phablet lives on regardless, and goes all-in with a wide 6" screen.

PapaRafe, 25 Jan 2018I know it's a preference but can't help notice Xiao mi app ... moreyou do know you can change the icons, don't you?
with MIUI you can even change the whole theme of the phone, the notification, quick shortcut panel, dark/white theme for Settings , text color, etc. What can you change on an Iphone, etc.

Best budget phone, if you can live with 16:9 display, is MiA1. After Oreo update that is. Obviously MiA2 will have 18:9 display. And that will be another hit. Stock Android is far more fluid than any other Android software on phones. Period. I wonder why brands paste their useless flavors on it. Some had horrible OS.

Mobile phone business is biggest business in the world. Thousands of phones are being released over the years. Every year phones are slightly upgraded and pushed to gullible customers. When I have OP 5t, I surely don't need OP 6 but no, I will be buying OP 6 that selling the 5t. I don't need to so much power to go about my business Even lower midranger can meet my demands. But I have to have OP 6. Call it show off or addiction, but that's what is running the mobile phone business. I wonder at our gullibility!

Mark, 24 Jan 2018I had redmi note 3 snapdragon edition, loved it. Yeah spea... moreThey couldn't give you more for the chip, even an earphone. Bigger screen is a waste, things should be better with SD630 (better modem too) + Bigger Battery + Clear information about Corning type used.

I know it's a preference but can't help notice Xiao mi app icons look childish and plain

That's one reason I'm staying away from chinese phones alike oppo, vivo, one plus
They're indeed cheap budget and so goes the quality.

HTC, Apple, Samsung icons gives you eye candies & beauty worth what you pay for....

a good phone for a great budget. What more can one want for this money. Maybe it would be even better with SD 630, but only geeks care about that stuff. The SD625 and MIUI optimisation make a very speedy device. If u want better performance and better camera go for Mi Note 3. Otherwise for this money - gold.

U are too focused on hardware and yet i am for the real world performance. Iphone 7plus speakers and cam are hands down better but my life doesnt revolve around it, battery life and consistent smoothness is what im after. And besides i have portable speaker and enough system at home if i really want to enjoy my music or movies. I also have dslr. Enjoy ur iphone, next time u read or hear someone say that their they prefer android over ur iphone dont be butt hurt coz 1 its not ur money 2 thats the truth for them. Smh

I can confirm that it has 5GHz tho.

Well, in some country the so-called competitors like Moto x4 and HTC U11 Life are NOT on the same price tier as Redmi Note series.. it's even way pricier than Mi A1

It ran on Android os, used Snapdragon 650 and it was very smooth. (Check anandtech for that) besides the battery life was better anyways..

With 4000mAh it scores 1... moreUnfortunately you are wrong. 5,5 FHD is not corresponding with 6 18:9 screen. 6 18:9 screen (92,9cm2); 5,5 16:9 (83,4cm2); 5,8 16:9 screen (92,7cm2). So 6inch 18:9 screen is corresponding with 5,8inch 16:9 screen, so I think battery life is pretty good.

Still don understand how the GBench score leave other SD625 phone too far behind.
I dont see the logic here with the 4300~ score mark.Same also with Mi A1 and Moto GS5+
,the multi core cpu score was too high different than previous SD625 phone.

So better stick with Antutu which more consistent benchmark across the same
                                      hardware platform.
For GPU benchmark, better stick with 3D Futuremark.
                                      GeekBench is weird benchmark software.
