Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus review

23 January 2018
So, no more Redmi Notes eh? The Redmi 5 Plus should clearly have been the Note 5, a successor of the Redmi Note 4, but Xiaomi wanted a fresh start. The fifth generation is trying to shake things up and the new look obviously called for a new name. So, Xiaomi retired the Note brand promoting the Plus from a mere qualifier to a proper name. The phablet lives on regardless, and goes all-in with a wide 6" screen.

You didn't buy the iPhone 7 Plus cause the midrange SD 510/Mediatek from 2015 running Chinese Bloatware was smoother than the flagship iOS10 running A10 Fusion from 2016 and ended up buying HTC U11? _/l\_

nothing wrong with sd625, But since competition is offering sd 630 xiaomi should've gone for sd 630. even sd 626 is not enough.

I had redmi note 3 snapdragon edition, loved it. Yeah speaker wasnt great so as the camera. But i love it due to the battery life, so smooth and snappy, and the price. Its my daily driver until my htc u11. Heck i was ready to buy iphone7plus, but didnt coz its not as smooth or smoother than my rn3 so i ended up with u11. I like this r5plus, especially the battery. I believe the miui 9 would be awesome as well, but i need band 28 as primary requirement. Even mi a1didnt have band 28. I dont understand why most Chinese fons, especially budget ones, dont offer band 28?

The phone goods really good...Too bad it is a MI phone. From my experience after using 2 MI phones + 2 from my family. All kaput within after the warranty period. Coincident? I don't think so..... MI phone substandard product & terrible customer Services. Woud definitely not recommend to anyone.

Another subpar camera for a budget model..... C'mon Xiaomi. Release better camera phones. Even the flagships cameras are bad.

I love the design but for sure we would love this phone much if it coincides with our preferences. Even if its China phone, as long as it kicks b***s against other phones, then I'm in for a grab.

That is why i shifted to another brand. And i am very satisfied more than I expected. I've also waited for the RN5 but no to avail. We'll for its price it is good!

Anonymous, 23 Jan 2018Must say Xiaomi designs are ugly and so is their Android skinIf brands like xiaomi makes an unique signature design, no doubt they will thrive.
Same thing with the other chinese brands (except huawei)

Please do a meizu m6s review, it’s a one worthy opponent for this phone.

I still don't this that this is the true RN4 sucessor, or should I say I am hopeful that this isn't the RN4 successor. I still feel Xiaomi won't bring this as RN5. With internet penetration increased substantially, even an average Joe will know that this is a bad phone (when looking at it as a RN4 successor), same was not the case last year when RN4 was downgraded to 625, though it still had a no. of more pros as compared to RN3, than this one.
Tl,dr it would be stupid of Xiaomi to bring this as the RN5 in India

                              "...Xiaomi wanted a fresh start."

"The fifth generation is trying to shake things up..."

"The 5 Plus keeps the Snapdragon 625 chip and 4,000mAh battery of the Redmi Note 4. The old 5MP selfie camera stays too..."

Yeah, these three sentences kinda don't fit together, do they? Truly, how can anyone interpret "keeping the internals of Gen4 (which themselves were mostly a downgrade from Gen3) and following the 18:9 outside appearance everyone else is doing" as innovation? At least they didn't "upgrade" to an SD617 with 2GB RAM and a 3.000mAh battery.

I agree with Fulljack's recommendation: might as well just buy an A1 (or a plain Note 4, if you can handle some slight tinkering, it has excellent custom roms support).
