And I would like to point out, XZ2 4k 10bit HDR video should be uploaded to yt in a proper rec.2020 yt supported format, so everyone can see actual quality Xperia can record.
Like this guy actually did:
https://youtu.be/BtPyV4O581Y
The way most people and revs post Sonys hdr video recordings in a wrong format, just doesnt do XZ2 camera capabilities justice.

It's not all about noise. But, if a cam have a noise problem (especially a big one like this XZ2), it will appears in every taken pic no matter what condition it in.
What else, not good enough dynamic range. No OIS. Slow focus.
Check out supersaftv S9 vs XZ2 camera comparison on youtube for another reference.

And if you think the pattern on those blinds is correct might I suggest that you visit a psychiatrist?
From previous tests on GSMA I can tell you that neither is correct on the S9.
I had an S8, the output was entirely artificial looking. The S9 does not look any better.

AnonD-186803, 07 Apr 2018If you're only consideration of the quality of a camera is ... moreExcept the Sony one is more over processed and sharpened with more noise. And detail despite having 7 more mp and more sharpening artifacts is barely a tad bit more on the Sony.
And you are just talking crap about the colors or basing it off the s8 which is illogical to do ass the processing is different.
The s9 has the cleaner more accurate and natural looking image. With more advanced and intuitive software to do it with.

lek, 06 Apr 2018bruh.. XZ2's noise is bad. that's it.
make it 16 megapixel... moreIf you're only consideration of the quality of a camera is noise is bad, then you have a very limited idea of what constitutes a good photograph.
Detail is higher on the Sony, colours are better on the Sony, images don't feel "plastic" due to over-processing and over-saturation (the main reason I returned my Galaxy S8 last year) and video is better.
But if noise is all you see then snap away for Instagram and let people go 'Ooh, pretty'. I'll take the camera that does an objectively better job at capturing what I see.

I really hope that gsm-Arema would start of using high quality professional camera as an reference to these phone camera comparisons. All phone camera makers use today so heavy picture altering algorythms that it is impossible to tell what the picture should look banes on the real situation!
Professional camera could give realistic view of what the environment looked before phone cameras make their ”adjustments” to it. So it would give a standard to what picture quality should be compared.

L.W.I (unracist) , 06 Apr 2018Am I the only one who has noticed that the Sony is so like ... moreI'm pretty sure Samsung is putting a lot of effort on improving the long-term battery endurance. If I remember it correctly, they said that the batteries inside their flagships can maintain 95% of the original capacity even after 2 years of use.

Tann Hauser, 04 Apr 2018I am sorry Nick, but you got it all wrong with "basic featu... moreThe lens on both devices are clearly smudged as you can see at 6:19 - XZ2 is showing streaks of light while Mate 10 Pro has strong glare around light sources(which, by the way, is also evident at 6:24), either of which won't happen if the glass is kept clean. This also explains why the pictures from Mate 10 Pro also had oddly pale, even though the phone is known to boost the contrast aggressively... In fact my Mate 10 Pro can take much better night shot than shown in the video without blowing up highlights like this. Also, since the reviewer doesn't zoom into images from each device nor did upload the video in 4K resolution, you can't really see how they perform in terms of details from what you showed me.
But since I don't want you to end up in a wrong conclusion that I'm biased to some specific brands, let me tell you that I think XZ2 is indeed a really, really solid phone and IMO the only compromises they made this time were the battery(it's 11.1mm thick so they could've fit 4000mAh battery if they really wanted to) and the still photography performance. Sony mobile is definitely on the right track with the quality of their current flagship smartphone, but in order to be more competitive in the market, they need to offer more to the consumer. Putting OIS does not hurt the image quality, it only improves it, and they could've done fit one in if they are actually serious about a camera on this phone, since, as I already said, it's a very thick phone so there is enough room for that. It has no effect on or even improves the video stabilisation as well, considering how Pixel 2 with hybrid optical + electronic image stabiliser can record much more fluid and less jumpy footage than the original Pixel can. If it conflicts with their Steadyshot mechanism, they can just turn OIS off when shooting video, simple. Almost all competitors have it (apart from P20 Pro, which has an exceptionally large sensor for a smartphone), and this phone is thicker than any other flagships in the market right now, why not just include one? This would help reduce some of the jitter which happens when shooting in 4K resolution, too.
If you fail to understand what I am trying to say after reading my comment above(which is OK because I know it was extremely long and must have been tedious to read), let me just make my point clear: Sony did a good job with the camera on XZ2, but that can't be used as an excuse of not attempting to do EVEN BETTER to match the competition. Inclusion of OIS obviously could've made the life much easier for those who use this phone to shoot photos at night.

Conclusion, Samsung decided to wipe the noise with a little compromise with sharpness, Sony decided to leave the noise and preserving the all details or sharpness, but there is one concept i didn't understand, these reviewers who are supposed to be experts never mentioned anything about changing resolutions according to the scenes or lighting condition, based on my experience with my Sony xperia x, the 23mp resolution doesn't deliver great performance in many scene where the 8mp actually does, the 8mp delivers much better dynamic range and less noise and sometimes even sharper image, and i think this is the case with the xz2 between the 19mp and 12mp, until now, not a single reviewer mentioned anything about this concept.

S8 User, 05 Apr 2018The S9 won, even tho Sony did put up a good fight. And it's... moreI mean, it is a good fight between these 2 flagships. I see no reason to criticize Sony for their camera now except the new design flow which I think even their old OmmiBalance design looks much better if it had lesser bezels, lack of 3.5mm headphone jack and also the lack of OIS, it has improved a lot for sure, I'm impressed, but of course still behind SAMSUNG's lead. Their next IMX500 sensor for their smartphones, I hope they could lower the megapixels to 15MP, not too much and not too less. They probably need to increase the sensor size to a fair amount too, and maybe add variable aperture, from F1.5 to F2.5 that is adjustable instead of only switching from F1.5 and F2.4, that will be much more useful, but from there on I will expect some brand to make a more matured version like how SAMSUNG did for the 960fps compared to Sony's, if Sony themselves were to create a F1.5 - F2.5 variable aperture camera setup for their future flagships. Anyway said, still, the main thing Sony have to always keep as their top priority when it comes to their smartphone cameras is the camera software, u just can't go wrong with that. If u go wrong with the camera software, even the 15MP F1.5 - F2.5 camera sensor that I wish they can make will go wrong too

make it 16 megapixel, S9 image will be more detailed (with the same noise algorithm), and will embarrass XZ2 in this camera battle.

Am I the only one who has noticed that the Sony is so like Japan & the Samsung like South Korea? Everything the Sony delivers is about INTEGRATED manufacturing versus MODULAR manufacturing! The Sony will give a superior ownership experience over 3+ years while the Samsung will be plagued by diminished battery performance, slower OS updates, potential screen burn-in & warranty 1 year shorter than Sony (here in Australia). Remember, THE MORE THINGS CHANGE THE MORE THEY STAY THE SAME.......

Correct the focal length and correct for extra resolution so that the images are framed exactly the same and look again. You can do this on GSM's own ISO comparisson chart. There's no question that the Xperia has the superior camera.

Sony still never wake up, as usual pretty bad photo process algorithm with terrible photo quality output.
They is really no point to compare photo output quality on Sony mobile phone anymore. It is way too behind on what others manufacture did.

lek, 05 Apr 2018S9's noise is slightly less than ideal (if not ideal), but ... moreI respectfully disagree. The Xperia could have a little less noise in places, yes, but the S9 obliterates detail in places it should be retained. The shutters are entirely wrong. The stabilised night foliage is completely destroyed.
The Sony gets both of these right. Yes, it's noisier but it's also objectively more detailed.
As for the dynamic range - GSM explain this themselves: if Superior Auto goes for Landscape more it doesn't activate HDR. Easy enough to force it to.
