Say what you will about "B" (P20Pro), the masses will always gear towards over-processed photos, just like how those same masses prefer the punchy colors of AMOLED screens. It's the same principle.

"A" looks softer and more natural. "A" shots were also blurred, while "B" looked sharper and had overblown highlights. "B" made use of HDR, so I'd say B was the P20 Pro.

Blurry mess = Nokia, Overprocessed mess = Huawei. They both suck. Nokia 1020 and 808 are greatly overrated though. I`ve never seen one really good picture from both these phones. All fine detail is obliterated, noise is everywhere and the the colours always seem muted.

I preferred the Nokia's image 3 times out of 4. But it seems like the majority is voting otherwise, so I cannot blame Huawei for opting for overprocessing their images. Give the customers what they want.
You should have included a human subject in the comparison pictures.

"And last, the window blinds. 12MP cameras struggle with resolving the true patterns at this distance, and we were hoping that 40MP ones will do better. Well, not quite." - reviewer
You're wrong.
At Scene 4, the B phone (Huawei) distorted the patterns of the window blinds, while the A phone (Lumia) retained the patterns.
However, the phone A has worse corner blurriness than the phone B. Look at the grass for example. Why didn't you mention it?
You should have to use Nokia 808 instead of Lumia 1020.

Lumia's camera design was a copycat. I prefer Huawei P20 over Lumia 1020 anyday.
FYI: Sony Ericsson Satio can get good pictures too.

Whackcar, 09 Apr 2018A has more detail than B, but it doesn't matter. The thing ... moreNoisier but more detailed image is alwasy better than images with less details caused by noise-reduction.

just because the pictures on phone B look so poppy, saturated and oversharpened doesn't mean that it resolves more details, phone B looks like it has a lot of processing and fake cheap algorithms playing in there

Phone A is the Nokia. easy to see because Nokia almost always use more mature processing, which doesn't use noise reduction and artificial sharpening so much. You can also see that the Nokia has a lot less chromatic aberrations thanks to a better lens.
of course, I'm not surprised to see that phone B has more votes. "normal" people just don't know how to judge picture quality. a shame really...

Sorry, but I don't know how in the hell "B" is winning the Mural shot. I mean, look at that oversharpening and the purple hue en every detail...

Whackcar, 09 Apr 2018A has more detail than B, but it doesn't matter. The thing ... moreYes, I know. I understand where you're coming from...There's a reason why rather strong (some might say overzealous :) ) NR algos are so abundant. But I can't unsee the processing, and it just doesn't look great to my eyes. Maybe I'm just getting old. :)
I agree with the lighting (the larger aperture really helps there), but: I cannot in good conscience agree about the foliage. The grass and the thujas in Picture 1, while not as punchy, just look much more natural in A for me, and...*sigh* there's the NR and sharpening artefacts again in B. No, I'll take the noise every time, thank you. Now get off my lawn! ;P

A is more bluish and B is more pinkish. But both took some great pics none the less.

Purple instead of white in phone B. artificial colors. The details is about the same in both, but sheep will vote for phone B because in has more sharpening applied in post porocessing,

Voted for B every single shot,
The dynamic range is better and photos are more clear (some A shots are blurry).

AnonD-732303, 09 Apr 2018B mostly preferred over A: Expected results but still somew... moreA has more detail than B, but it doesn't matter. The thing is most people (myself included) don't like noise. We prefer noise-reduction over a noisier but more detailed image. B does hold plenty of detail as long as you don't pixel-peep. The images simply look far more pleasing to the eye. Hence B gets more votes than A.
That's not all though. B also has better lighting, better sharpness & captures foliage better.
