Lumia 1020 vs. Huawei P20 Pro

10 April 2018
While most makers are coming up with all sorts of different dual camera setups, Huawei figured that's no longer enough and fitted three on the back of the P20 Pro. But 3 is not the number that's captivated us most; rather, it's 40 - the P20 Pro comes with a 40MP primary camera.

Sort by:

Purple fringing, dynamic range and resolution aside, Huawei is pretty good. It did come close. I bet, Nokia has a bigger sensor, so their resolution and dynamic range is better. Not a fan of the Lumia 1020 noise, but Nokia 808's colors would be far more muted than Huawei's, so the comparison would be even more in favor of Huawei, IMO. But why not to compare all 3? I bet, somebody will. Allaboutsymbian, Steve Litchfield, maybe? :)

In my opinion both cameras average at best. One shots dark and blurred photos. The second shots bright and overexposed photos.

Can't wait for the low light version of the shootout!

In 4 out of 5 pictures, A is clear winner. But public opinion is tilted towards B because of tgose faux colours and oversharpening. And that last image is proves that A's camera eats B's for breakfast. A is clear winner imo. More details and true to life.

Whackcar, 09 Apr 2018A has more detail than B, but it doesn't matter. The thing ... moreLOL.. A images can always be processed to get B.. But B will never be able to match the detail of A.. To all noobs who only use Auto mode out there, there is a little thing called setting in the camera app.. Just set the sharpness level up and colour vividness level up and BOOM you get B.. A camera is superior due to detail and it can opt to produce A or B easily.. B camera will never be able to produce image like A

Phone A has more pleasing images and retains more details.
Phone B photos are all over sharpened with disgusting edges.
But weirdly most GSMArena voters had voted for Phone B ???

I bet you didn't know what Photoshop really is or ever used one.. A can be processed to get B but not the reverse.. B does not have all the fine details as in A

A: Wins in detail with minimal processing B: are oversharpened and sometimes overblown

A can be processed to get B but B can never be processed to get A's level of detail.

                      Therefore A (Lumia 1020) WON.

                      You can't cheat physics

                      P20 Pro 1/1.7 < 1020 1/1.5 < 808 1/1.2

Alas.. My 808 still has to chug along for a few more years until a really worthy successor arrived.. But still, kudos to Huawei for catching up to 808/1020 level in a slim camera module..

Phone A (Lumia 1020) is miles ahead of the P20 Pro. All HMD / Nokia need to do is put that sensor into their next flagship with an updated brighter lens (F 1.6 or so) , Add 5 axis OIS , tweek and improve upon the already exceptional processing... and they've got a gamechanger on their hands.

A had much better whites (and even other colors) and overall detail. Colors seem more natural.

B had better shadows and appears more sharper.

So I'm going to assume A is the Nokia and B is the Huawei.

really would like to see the results and probably phone b is p20 , it better be LMAO.

maybe they need to include the samples from professional DSLR like 5DS for references of the "real" scene. but other than that, i think both of the phone has its own characteristics. one camera looks softer but feels natural, one camera is looks sharp and detailed (obiviously Huawei). i think Huawei wins the love from people, but 5 years old Lumia 1020 still holds its own, still great .
