Huawei P20 Pro vs. Samsung Galaxy S9+

27 April 2018
1x, 2x... 5x. Zooming smartphone cameras are no longer a novelty - in fact a numbers race is forming. Asus' Zenfone Zoom couldn't make waves, but Huawei appears on the right track to do so with the P20 Pro and its 3x zoom camera. We figured we'd pit it against the Galaxy S9+ - the latest phone to come out with what's become the standard 2x zoom.

You need to touch-to-focus in order to use the 3x cam for 4k video, but this can destroy the device (no joke).

What do you smoke review? Look at the dynamic range of 20Pro. Miles most if not all night shots had superior light control and little to no noise. When it comes to night photography 20Pro is a champ. Period.

"The 40MP sensor has a 27mm-equivalent stabilized lens in front with an f/1.8 aperture" Not true. Huawei never confirmed that the lens has OIS. And according to The Verge Huawei said it doesn't have OIS. Even if there is some kind of OIS hardware implemented, it doesn't mean that it is enabled.

Most people don't care about 4k videos so that's not a deal breaker, 1080p is what most people use. Did I just hear you say S9+ takes better pics in Lowlight than P20 pro?? Lemme not even comment there!

So "better overall" is new second best of two award......and it goes to......Samsung.

first, im not gonna read the conclusions.
your method is BAD. holding the 2 phones in different position to take the same photo, you your get different photos, different light, different focus, different everything!
mount a tripod, mark the position of the phone, take a photo, put the other phone at the same position, etc

How is Samsung miles ahead when it comes to slo mo.... The specs have them at the same 720/960fps. They seem to be on par with each other

[deleted post]If you look at p20 modes, and use it as intended this is what you get - overfiltered, oversharpened, low resolution stills, worse videos. 4K looks good and better than s9 in daylight, because samsung got blurred video recording compared to top performers, but in low light S9 samples looks better, surely same for selfie. Wonder why gsma did not include hdr situation against window+face with main and selfie, for videos and stills. Also low light stills/videos with selfie. Now that I mention, wonder how is audio recording quality in videos(and in different situations), as if its not important. Same fast launch and capturing convenience with moving targets. Too lazy test comparison.
S9 simply gives better results overal, if its not extreme low light or 5x zoom (for stills and back camera only).
Still in most situations (good to not extreme low light) when you compare results to xz2 19mp or videos, you will be surprised with difference, no matter if its 10/40mp or 4K.

                              Interesting..

Tech sites say DxO is no reference but then they say the phone better rated by DxO is the best.
                              How is that possible?

The bokeh of S9+ is as poor as videos recorded by P20p.
                                  Very disappointing.

I'll actually say the 2x lossless zoom on mate 10 pro does it better than the x3 and x5 on p20 pro :-/ the video stability can be fixed through update, so no need to panic there.
