Android P public beta first-look review

11 May 2018
Just in case you missed it, Google held its annual developer's conference earlier this week. It was jam-packed with interesting announcements, most notably, the announcement of the first public beta of Android P. We wanted to take a quick look what Android P feels like so we went ahead and registered a couple of devices for beta access. We spent quite a bit of time playing around with the two phones looking for the new features that Google promised us.

For all those idiots taking about 2 swipes, it's still a single swipe.

First time I am happy manufactorers can change things. I don't want this stock andriod, luckily I dont have a stock andriod phone. Hope the manufactorers fix stuff in their version!

I may be in the minority here, but for me, the best Android ever was Kit Kat.
After that it went downhill, removing features and options we had natively in Kit Kat, plus the OS had a good identity with solid colors and appearance.

Nowadays, it looks like Android just want to mimic iOS, which is not “bad” but lacks its own identity.

Edit: for some reason whenever i use quotes in this site it appears bugged “

Long and short swipes for recent and app drawer doesn't look good. But the recent switch and guesture control looks very good(except the one stated above). And for those who are comparing it with iOS, what's wrong with borrowing good features from other platforms? Everyone does that. But that horizontal recents style is present in MIUI from ages. Also I saw one comment comparing the UI with touchWiz. People hate touchWiz because of its heaviness but not for it's colours. Absence of dnd definitely feels like a downgrade. Quick toggles looks half-baked. But it's still a beta version

If you want to see Gestures in action before the Google release then find a friend who owns a OP5T because we have had them for the last two weeks. Swipe up from the bottom left or right side of the screen (for left or right handed users) to go Back, swipe up from the bottom centre to go to the Home screen, and swipe up from the bottom centre and hold for a second to go to the task manager. After using them for a while I could never go back to those ugly onscreen buttons again.

New Android version, and I still don't see why I must upgrade to this version, other than bugfixes, stability improvement, or security updates. Unfortunately those new updates that we don't actually need always comes with new bugs or problems.

And about the design, I never liked the flat design anyway, because those looks just like lazy design.

                          toggles are really uglies

Man...all this white is going to suck for Samsung and Pixel users...unless Google is unfortunately going to use LCD screens...oh boy.

I'm sure a launcher will come out with darkness all over so I shall wait for that.

Looks pretty ugly and not user friendly. Basically bunch of things that nobody asked for. This is the windows 8 version of Android. Terrible times ahead.
