Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium hands-on review

21 July 2018
Premium Sony Xperias is where a lot of firsts happen - first 4K display on a smartphone with the Z5 Premium, first HDR display on a smartphone with the XZ Premium alongside 960fps super slow-mo video recording, and now, on the Xperia XZ2 Premium - a dual camera for the first time on a Sony smartphone (a bit late to that party, eh?).

Brandstifter, 22 Jul 2018The design is great as well. Classic Sony design. It was great before XZ2 this is crap thick curving back, with average battery size, bad fingerprint/camera placement

Gsmarena should have compared samples with P20 Pro though the samples are nice look more natural compared to Pixel and video is unmatched

The camera software is certainly not optimised. It is using a rather fast shutter speed of 1/50s in low light situations when it can really go down to 1/25s. This will allow it to use a more sane ISO of 500 instead of 1000.

I'm waiting for the camera test review. Please make some test with other flagship phone like Huawei P20 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S9+, iPhone X, and other flagship.

Anonymous, 21 Jul 2018Ok, let me be more specific: Unacceptable quality - smearin... moreFilm making? On a crappy mobile camera? At low light?

First of all mobile cameras are meant for mobile viewing. Even if you use it to shoot your children's memories on it, it will end up being a waste, get a proper point and shoot camera instead and get a proper video camcorder.

When you see or hear about some portions of the major motion picture being filmed on iPhone or even GoPro make no mistake that heavy hardware modification were added and post was done by the cream of the crop people who know what to look for and know how to fix it.

If you want to make film instead of wasting $1,000 on a phone you should really look into some used battle tested DLSR alternatives with great lenses packed in a combo. Then you should save couple of more $ grand to buy proper lights. Something most of the newcomer film makers totally ignore.

The last experia I bought, will be the last I buy. The casing and recharging port were so fragile they may as well have been made of glass. The second time the thing stopped charging, after paying $105 to repair it the first time, I threw it in the trash.

Very impressive image quality... After about 10 generations of abysmal image quality in their smartphones... Sony has finally got its image processing right! Low light is particularly impressive. Definitelty vastly superior to Huawei's P20 Pro.
