Pocophone F1 by Xiaomi review

22 August 2018
Xiaomi's announcements have been relatively predictable so far, but the introduction of a new Poco sub-brand was a surprising move. It sounds like a marketing experiment - deliver flagship specs at cutthroat prices. Sound familiar? Well, it does remind of how OnePlus came to be, but we're not sure the new Pocophone F1 is headed in the same direction. Poco is still just a brand, and not a separate company and they stand on the shoulders of Xiaomi's logistics and after sales support network.

You can... moreSD845 is no similar to Kirin 970, a 25% (sustainable!) performance difference, which this phone targets. Don't forget the battery consumption, where Kirin never wins the competition when the capacity is the same.

apo, 22 Aug 2018As the previous droid maxx and droid turbo user, am I glad ... moreYeah I hope kevlar gains traction, hard to find phones that won't shatter easily nowadays. Kevlar will absorb impacts and protect the rest of the phone.

Anonymous, 22 Aug 2018Instead of a notch that wide why not make it into a bezel? To give you extra screen space.

apo, 22 Aug 2018As the previous droid maxx and droid turbo user, am I glad ... moreAgreed, Kevlar is premium, good looking and very robust material. More manufacturers should take notice, so they come up with refreshing designs, rather than the tired glass and aluminum sandwich.
Btw, I loved my former Moto Razr Maxx

Guys one of concerns is whether my earphones with 40 ohm impedance will not sound too feeble even at high volumes on this phone? Specially after hearing below average volume levels on plugging in earphones in the review it concerns me as I am currently using Mi 5 and output via headphone jack for same earphones is quite loud even at 60-70% volume setting but what about this phone...?

AnonD-720877, 22 Aug 2018Because there is only two (yes 2!) QC4.0 charger currently ... moreWell, some forums take phones apart and found that the parts are around 30%-40% for the cost vs their retail price.

Take for example the Samsung Galaxy S9, parts alone would only cost within $400 but they sell it for almost double the price.

Mostly are the research, development and especially advertisements. Ads are the main cause for why phones cost so much and attach that with a known brand like Samsung.

You rarely see any TVC for Xiaomi let alone in an Ad in the newspaper.

Xiaomi has only 5% profit margin on smartphones as their main income comes from selling accessories for phones and other gadgets.

Will reserve judgment once the mi max 3 review is up, although this pocophone is virtually going to murder it. Just don't like the notch chin combo.
