Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL hands-on review

9 Oct 2018
It's Fall 2018 and Google is the third big-name company to unveil its flagship phones to the public, after Apple’s pair of XS’ and LG’s V40 ThinQ. We cannot act surprised with Google’s Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL but we’re sure excited nonetheless. And we cannot pretend to like them equally either - the Pixel 3 XL, its unseemly notch...

Beautiful phone. It doesn't look as bad as the leaks. I love it. I wished the price was lower and it had sd card slot. Come on! How much does sd card slot cost anyway??

Dude3, 10 Oct 2018I LOVE how Google recognizes how ugly the Pixel 3 XL is, an... moreExactly. The face of phone hardly came up as it was infected by a serious and UGLY disease called HUGE notch. Perhaps thats why even the CEO Sundar didnt turn up as there was nothing sundar (BEAUTIFUL) ABOUT THE PIXEL!!!

AnonD-632062, 10 Oct 2018Easily, one of the top contenders for the most terrible and... moreVery true. They can take the award for the worst notch design without any real or even imaginary competition!!!

Google has shot itself in the foot by coming up with a huge, unbelievable, intolerable notch. It simply sticks out like a camels head, calling all the attention to itself.
While watching the pixel event with my kids aged 10 & 13, when they saw 3XL both cried in unison, the notch is poopy!! Hope the MIT & IIT groomed design stalwarts in mountain view understand it in its true form! The huge bezel at the top & bottom simply sucks. There’s no excuse for stereo speakers as it can be moved to the bottom though the imaging may not be right. But does anyone spend hordes of time in smartphone listening through the speakers? Even flyby design companies from china, partners of google, are coming up with great designs which are aesthetically pleasing. When even a common man like you and me & a child can identify it as ugly, how come it escaped from the view of the design gurus?
If it was released 2yrs earlier, people would have taken it with awe but these are the days of essential phones and one plus with their remarkable teardrop designs. As an android enthusiast, when I look at pixel 3, it doesn’t break any new grounds. There’s no integration of any health monitoring apps or fall recognition etc. which would have been nice. Unfortunately Google seems to be like a puppy love wagging its tail and following the foot prints of apple with no vision of their own. If iphone removes headphone socket, pixel too would, if iphone wont entertain a FM radio, pixel too wont, if iphone has a notch, pixel too would….Google is the perfect isheep!!
A great company should come up with trailblazing ideas, innovations if not hang their head in shame. Other than camera, pixel lags in every score, including display & battery life. A 4000mAh would have been nice for its size. Hope it has enough talent & will to get its acts together at least by next year or choose to be yet another android firm like moto or nokia and we all know where that ends. Until then, keep enjoying the poopy design, cheers!

                What's all the bezel for?

AnonD-632062, 10 Oct 2018Easily, one of the top contenders for the most terrible and... morecouldn't agree more.

"But this year Google added some niceties to the Pixel 3 and 3 XL to better equip them against 2018 competition, like wireless charging, new Pink paint job a new tall-aspect display for the smaller phone and sadly, a notch for the larger one." - I'm sorry, but nothing leads me into buying an ugly overpriced phone that doesn't offer anything more than regular updates. I get better design, better price, better battery and only slightly worse camera on many other phones - for half the price. I still don't get why google had to go the apple-way and pump up their advertisement instead of following their ways of affordable AND INNOVATIVE phones. Today their phones are plain boring - like their customers. But maybe that's what economy needs: less innovation, more bordom.

I've an 64Gb phone, that have SD card. Guess what, never used it. Music, spotify premium. When I need something I go to my google drive account (100Gb) or my NAS (19Tb). Just watched 23Gb+13Gb tutorials last 2 weeks.
If you "make" 4k videos and see them all the time and you don't have a NAS, well...that's not my problem...SD cards won't save you. Well, they could, but you need to carry them around all the time (just because you need to show ALL your videos all the time), just like a OTG drive, and you need to store them anyway in another storage device, because if a sd card is lost or malfunction, your precious moments are lost forever.

If I have the budget to buy and only these two, Pixel 3!

and even if you don't know how...you can use google free cloud to put raw pictures taken from a camera and see them and use/see/edit them on your phone.

the smaller pixel would be my decision. if I had to grab a pixel. but nope. TOO fugly. ._.

You want me to waste data and pay for excess storage both in uploading and downloading 4K movies, photos and music? You want me to waste data and stream 4k movies all the time everytime you like to watch a movie more than once? And you really think wifi and data is available 100% of the time, anywhere in the world with 100% affordabilty, 100% service reliability and 100% probability of high speeds sufficient enough to stream 4K movies without horrible compression, buffering and stuttering? And do you even know how fast your battery drains and how fast your data allotment evaporates when you don't have enough storage for all your 4K videos and other media files? Now you know!
