Huawei Mate 20 Pro review

Anonymous, 29 Oct 2018I don't think it's about being a brand loyalist.
In fact... moreYou can have notification using amoled, as it consumes power for just those pixels(just find an app). Ir was replaced by wifi connection(considering you use this newest piece of tech with another new tech, so IR is useless then. If its about jack, you can choose your own dac on usb-c or wireless(wireless ones are not very portable though, if its in/over ear). Nothing is going back, just other tech cannot keep up with the phones and this futuristic trend. Cut the wires finally.
If its about the price, you try to compare two new midrange phones 2x400 and one flagship for 800, even if you got latest proc. and design, flagship can do more even after an year. Also try to compare what if offers compared to xperias, price is right. (Can your phone shoot at 100.000ISO for example?)

buxz777, 29 Oct 2018i tink someone is a little jealous that the huawei smashes ... moreI don't think it's about being a brand loyalist.
In fact after reading this review I, again, ask myself why should I buy this overhyped piece of tech that exchanged some good features for bad ones? When I can buy the also compromised superfast, imperfect pocophone F1 at 400 euro?
Does the arguably better feature-set justify its high asking price? I asked myself exactly this when the Galaxy Note 9 came out and here yet again.
I'm afraid I will keep asking myself this which will ultimately lead me to a situation where I decide to not obtain a new phone (again) this year and just hold on to the device I currently have and enjoy. It seems that the more of these "new" devices that are in many things worse then their predecessor arrive, the more I resist to renew.
Understandably, a lot of you will probably state that I am afraid of renewal while I firmly believe that improvement is advancing your current featureset instead of exchanging one feature for something else. I expect that a flagship device has EVERYTHING on offer not less. So it that means not just any audio-jack but a jack with HQ-DAC, not just any IR-blaster but a long-range 2-way IR-transciever, not just a simple notification LED but a user-adjustable RGB-notification LED and so on. Instead these greedy b@st@rds remove them features and charge more.

Look at the photo tool.
The 40 MP looks awful, it is better at 10MP.
The 10MP is on pair with Pixel, but poor in front of Xz2
Feel free to check if you don't believe me.

As expected Huawei upgraded it's imaging and SoC-performance while ditching everything else that has been great about their products. To be replaced with gimmicks.
Gone is the excellent fingerprintscanner (at the back) from the Honor 8 era. Gone is Laser AF, gone is a convenient 3.5mm jack, gone is proper SD-card storage. And NO, "inventing" an exotic, rare, new standard is not adding storage. Even the UI has gone backwards. For example where's auto-brightness toggle?
What we do have is more privacy invading gimmicks. And a ridiculous triple camera at the back coupled with an even more ridiculous 24MP fixed focus camera at the front that obviously has no indication when our mug is actually in focus!!!! Anno 2018 EVERY camera in a phone should have autofocus. I'd rather have a proper 5MP AF camera at the front with OIS then a stupid +20MP fixed focus one with fake bokeh! Besides, if you have an ugly mug as I have, then you don't want to see it's ugliness magnified in full 24MP glory!
But as usual since Huawei engineers and its leadership have no clue wtf they're doing, they just throw everything they got at consumers, shitting out devices at an even faster rate than Samsung used to do, with varying features and options. As much as I enjoyed my Honor 8, that much I hate everything else they made after that almost perfect little phone in 2016, alas.

Anonymous, 29 Oct 2018Overall this phone and especially its camera are overhyped ... moreAbout the 4K60....
Google and Sony chose not to offer because Electronic Stabilization does not work for this mode. OIS alone can't do the job.
We do not know if Huawei chose not to offer or if CPU can't do it. For example A12 does not record HDR10, something SD845 is able.

Anonymous, 29 Oct 2018Overall this phone and especially its camera are overhyped ... morei tink someone is a little jealous that the huawei smashes the note 9 into the ground ... the note 9 is 850 pounds in the uk and comes with a crap camera ... a zoom lens that cant be activated in pro mode or used in anything but perfect light ... it also comes with a cpu that andatech found to be quite crippled after the s9 release ... the note 9 also didnt com with any pre order goodies in the uk ... huawei have completly smashed the note 9 ... the sensor is twice the size ... the battery is better ... the cpu better ... the screen is amazing ... the charging speed makes the note 9 look like a phone from the 1990s ... its smaller and lighter despite packing more hardware and a bigger battery ... oh and huawei actually release their flagship with the latest version of android unlike samsung ffs ;-)
stop being a brand loyalist and making excuses for samsung , they need to up their game because huawei are coming for number 1 spot and making better phones right now

DD, 29 Oct 2018Overhyped and overpriced iPhone wanna be! Not even close to... moreNot even close ?
This phone obliterates even the XS Max in every aspect, the iPhone X is not worth to be mentioned. Check some speed tests, or camera comparisons on YouTube, you´ll understand what I´m saying.

Anonymous, 29 Oct 2018What about software update ??? Resale value ???Don't expect good resale value on any android phone. They're all trash when it comes to that. You lose almost 50% after a year. China phones? They lose value in less than a year. Mate 10 Pro only cost $400. and it was release last October 2017.

Does it take better pictures if you're actually in Hawaii? I've heard it performs better due to electromagnetic pulses and that's why it's called Huawei

ace007, 29 Oct 2018Yep They Do.. But Not The Class Leading Quad DAC In The LGs... moreYeah, I found out after digging that's a Wolfsen DAC. Apparently, all headphone jacks need a DAC to work.

Anonymous, 29 Oct 2018Overall this phone and especially its camera are overhyped ... morelolols. too many complaints, why dont you manufacture your own phone. that way it'll suit your needs. M20PRO might night be best, but you gotta give credit where it is due. this is just the beginning. great things have to begin at some point, as the saying goes, "Rome was not made in a day" . the same goes for n9 and evry other flagship out there. I may not like huawei but i know how to appreciate effort.

x3merrr, 29 Oct 2018No studio photos? Why?The studio shots are in for all three cameras. The video comparison is up, too, but 3x footage was not possible due to the limited studio space. Hope this helps.
Also updated the review with 2x zoom sample.

Is this a joke? Ur phone has more common things with a Sa... moreThat's exactly the main reason, I hate the curve screen because it doesn't serve any purpose for me, one of the reasons why I did not get any Samsung flagship last year and this year except for the Tab S3 because of that useless curve screen. And the Mate 10 Pro doesn't have the ugly notch.

Anonymous, 29 Oct 2018I feel exactly the same way about my Mate 10 Pro....battery... moreExactly, Mate 10 pro has higher battery endurance considering that the new SoC should be battery efficient. The only thing that I consider to be a big upgrade is the wide angle lense but when it comes to image quality for regular stills, the previous model can still keep up with this new model.
