Motorola Moto G7 Plus review

18 February 2019
The Moto G lineup has come a long way since its first release in 2013. The original Moto G is still one of the most iconic handsets ever created as it jump-started a new era of mid-range smartphones. It was quite frankly the first budget phone that made sense with a fairly powerful SoC for the asking price, good battery life and clean, fast and clutter-free Android experience. But seven generations in, does the Moto G7 lineup still have it? Or the focus had shifted so much, it’s hard to recognize the new Motos, for better or worse?

Anonymous, 19 Feb 2019You´re missing the point completly! Do any of those... moreIf you want all the features together then the Asus Zenfone 5 is a better option. Because add a more useful secondary camera than the G7 Plus and is cheaper. Depending of where you live, the Lenovo Z5 Pro is a better option too, with SD710 and all the features too plus underdisplay fingerprint sensor for the same price that the G7 Plus.

Below the G7 Plus in price the Redmi Note 7 is the one that offer more for its price. And we unknown what the "Pro" version will add, like the underdisplay fingerprint sensor. Tomorrow is the Xiaomi event, and in MWC next week more surprises could come. The Pro will arrive next month. At the end in one month we will have a lot models to choose with all neccesary in that range. So customers win in any case with a big variety of them.

Anonymous, 19 Feb 2019You´re missing the point completly! Do any of those... moreMost consumers don't give a damn about the soc while the phone runs fast and has everything that they actually need and use in day to day stuff. People don't play Fortnite, they use social networks and live life in a constant rush. For that this phone exceeds expectations. For me a turbopower, NFC and a good camera is essential for example.

Do any of those models mentioned has NFC? Or stereo speakers? Or OIS camera? Or splash resistance?

Not saying that is the right strategy but Moto is trying to deliver different products, for those who actually don´t care about the latest SoC .....
The question here is, will the consumers understand this? Do they really look for this in this segment?

They do not support screen sharing from mobile to TV. You have to looks for application and or chrome cast. Have they removed this limitation?

Xiaomi is the one growing up more here. You can find them now in official stores, and in Medimarkt, Carrefour, El Corte Inglés, Alcampo, etc. You can buy a Mi 8 Lite for 289 euros and Pocophone F1 299 euros. With their own exclusive expositors in the Apple style at some of them LOL. Even a Redmi Note 5 for 159 euros or the Note 6 for 220. Sure that the Note 7 variants are upcoming soon too. With local official and physical stores and custom service. And extra discounts if you are part of the shop's client program.

"with the only real competition here being the Redmi Note 7 with its excellent night mode."

                What about Honor 8x?

Devender Kumar, 19 Feb 2019Where did get these figures that Motorola has sold 85 million G6?Sorry I mislead the information, it's 85 million Moto G's not Moto G6. They are selling around 26 Moto G's every minute.
                  https://expansion.mx/tecnologia/2019/02/07/motorola-crece-en-mexico-gracias-moto-g

I've been to their launch event in Spain, they had that information on huge screens.
They had 26% market growth in the last year. They are doing really well under Lenovo, available in every market and compatible with bands worldwide, included microSDs and DualSIM (people forgot Google hated microSDs and DualSIM).

The torch bearer of the mobile phone and a 100 other innovations in mobility and communication is now down to this. Sad that people in charge can allow such innovation and legacy to go to such waste.

At this price, this phone is a joke. They have to cut it by at least 50% and put in at least a 660. Hack, even a Lenovo Z5S with a 710 is cheaper than this joke.

I won't buy any Xiaomi or Huawei. Their user interface is crap. My friend's P20 Lite lags with 4GB ram. I'm waiting for G7 Plus. I think price will be decent in my country. My G4 is still alive. Overall I like Moto's interface which is super smooth and bloatware free.

too many flaws to be considered a nice option. I mean, yes you do have the OIS camera and stereo speakers, still i doubt if these are enough reasons to consider a valid choice.
300€ is way to much.... Sub par batery life, it can only squeeze 59H endurance??! With a 636Soc ? My wife ´s X6 can squeeze more with the same batery...

With Android One and a 660 Snapdragon it would be perfect and justified.. time will tell if people really look to a proper camera and speakers on the mid range segment instead of perfomance and batery life

                                      Over Priced

I feel like Lenovo is digging Motorola a deep deep hole. A hole where Moto can never escape. And will slowly rot away, second by second.

Like, are you serious? I though this was supposed to be an upgrade not a downgrade.
Battery sucks, even with the fast charging.
Performance is waaay too sub-par, when compared to other competitors.
Still a SD 636? I mean, it's decent, but not that huge of an upgrade from the G6 Plus.
Camera might sound great on paper, but since this is a semi-mid range(or budget phone),so it won't deliver.
And pricing? Over-priced. Look at Xiaomi dishing out phones with 4000 mah battery.
Also Samsung, with 5000 mah M series phones.
There's the G7 Power, but that's not enough.
The G7 series is such a disappointment. What a shame. I expected more from the series, but this just won't cut it.
