Nokia N95 8GB review: Return of the king

23 November 2007
About a year ago Nokia released a tech-freak's dream of a handset offering a mouthwatering horde of features in a fairly compact size. The omnipresent N95 spawned a successor and now the question is how much better can it get. Nokia N95 8GB sure has good...

I've read the N95-1 review and this... they both said the built in GPS is incompatible w/ 3rd party app. ... What about Route66? I've been using it w/ my N95-1 since Oct. haven't had any problem w/it, need some proof???

i've seen it,touched it,the feel is excellent, quality material to last, the screen is drop dead gorgeous, colour black much better than previous n95,comparing now with the Sony 5mp,that screen is crap, sorry mr Sony, the point of a camera phone is not really to rush to your photographer and developp, but maybe simply to enjoy watching your pics on the go...say on your mobile screen ??? so what's the point of a better cam if no screen i dont see it.

ANYONE WITH N95 PROBLEMS . . . . .i work for a very large, well known phone & network provider , any problems with any n95 . . . . poor battery life, handset switches off, restarts and reboots, speaker & sound faults etc . . take it back to where you got it from & have it replaced, earlier you report it the better, usually when you have a faulty handset and you report it within 14 - 28 days of receiving it you will get a brand new replacement, after this period of days you will receive a refurbish handset (second hand) which cust's are not always aware of untill it is replaced, n95-1 was & still is an amzing handset but has been known to be extremely faulty, i deal with faulty handset every day of my working life, i will soon be handling the n95-2 & will post what faults i may come across beginning of january , if you feel your handset is doing something that is not right, report it . . even if the fault stops as from my experiance it will come back & usually it comes back with multiple & worse faults than you originally experianced

                Hi guys!
I want to know a couple of things:

1 - Is there any way to edit office documents (any programme or if you have to pay extra money)?

2 - Do we have to pay our network to use the GPS?

                Thanks in advance!

Thanx May for the info. I had emailed Mokia and then "reminded" them after 2 weeks, but still got no answers. Tonite after seeing ur message I found a review on "allaboutsymbian.com" which i found thru livingroom.com.au which has a very good synopsis of the changes from N95-1. Seems lens is now flush with body & no lens cap -good. Also it can stand on side for a "timed" shot, as well as having 80Mb RAM and a larger battery, altho as reviewer said it actually boots slower than origanal N95. I didn't see any reference to faster camera setup - i.e faster shot taking, Xenon flash, manual camera setup, or auto shut-off on closing slider; all of which I was asking Nokia about.
Still checking out the LG "viewty" (KU990) - only released this week - Sony K850i - who said it does not take good day shots? - and the Samsung B600.
                    Regards

"Return of the King" comment makes an interesting point re the number of returns of nokia's he gets. Maybe some focus on the reliability or clients' satisfaction (with all phobes) would be good. B4 I buy a phone - considering N95-3, Sony K850i or LG KU990 - I call up mobile repairers to ask how many repairs they get for a certain model. This can be more useful than most reviews. Does anyone know the differences between the N95-1 and the N95-3?
I am surprised by the number of comments made by those who are 'so excited' about a particular phone, when they have not even used it??

the "return of the king". Sure it is. my customers keep on returning these phone on my shop! I don't understand it but they're switching phones (especially the old n95) Samsung and Sony Ericsson sure sells well.

like @kam said the internal gps is supported by all those third party apps and besides its up to the developers to provide compatibility not nokias. nokia has provided sdk as the should. so that statement in the review is just wrong. also whoever said you cant assign tones to individual contacts just doesnt know s60.

I had the Old Nokia N95 (old ! ) and i had problems with it's limited internal working ram. Love the 8 gb, have two seasons of robot chicken on it and watch them in my spare time. What i think lacking in this version is the ability to asssign ringtones to individual contacts (it's wrongly stated in the review imo). Besides that the camera is fast, more responsive, overall the whole phone is a big step up from the old one . One of my best toys :D

Talk about third time lucky!!!...I started with the K850i...not happy then moved to the G800...wow!!! that was a BIG mistake and yesterday took delivery of the N95 8GB, and boy am I happy!!!!!

What a phone...was watching the preinstalled Spiderman 3 movie on the fone on the way home....what a screen...Superb!!!!....other fones are simply kicked into touch!!!! can't say anymore. Still haven't finished messing with it. It's my first Nokia in ages so really very happy :)

The changes made over the old N95 really make this fone so worth getting!!!...wholeheartedly agree with GSM Arena's review :):)

Enjoy this fone...it demands the attention!!! :)

                                    Cheers for listening :)

                                    Kam.

                                      FYI...
The internal GPS works with the following programs:
                                      Garmin Mobile XT
                                      Wayfinder 7
                                      Route 66 Vers. 7.3.468
                                      Google Maps
                                      Navigon Mobile
                                      Nav4All

The only biggie still missing is TomTom (I prefer Garmin personally)!

To Rony, the battery life doesn't depends on the screen and also it's processor. n95 is using 332mhz. nokia need this kind of speed to load their software. unless nokia wana follow sony by using 208mhz(which is the fastests in sony) then they cant have so many software in it. btw, if sony loads 3rd party software, i think there will be a great problem. lols.
