Nokia 9 PureView review

05 April 2019
The Once and Future King of mobile photography - the PureView camera - is back! The Nokia's champion has lived through the twilights of Symbian and Windows Phone, to be once again reborn in the peak of Android era. HMD's Nokia 9 is the bearer of the next-gen PureView snapper, and it's not one, but whole six of them!

What was the point of this phone? They should just stop producing it already, is anyone even buying it?

Colors of stills are closer to Xperia, same way it can capture some detail others couldn't. Considering hw it got, the rest of performance is bad. Feels like unfinished product.

Flagship phone but no EIS on 4K? Are you F kidding me? Even first Pixel able to do that with snapdragon 821 (and pretty stable too...). Shame on you Nokia...

It's not another 808 Pureview. But it's not another Pocophone F1 which will be forgotten in a few years time either. I wish HMD nothing but success and will add the 9 to my collection. Hoping for an 855 successor later this year!

Another Nokia's failure. Can't match even with Pocophone F1.

Bokeh is the only great thing about this phone

Nokia 8, Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 9 Pureview Nokia unveiled three flagships and all three failed thier mid range is pretty strong but flaghships are waste tbh Nokia 9 does not deserve Pureview moniker and its no successor to Lumia 1020, it would better if they just recycled Lumia 1020 and use latest SoC

                Cons
Uses last year's Snapdragon flagship chipset
User experience with the fingerprint scanner is poor
Buggy software, freezes and crashes happen often when using the camera
No microSD slot, while shooting RAW+JPG eats storage quickly
The default JPEG and video output is not flagship-worthy
The camera's prolonged image processing is tedious and takes a toll on battery life

                ************

I think HMD engineers have lots of issues to fix.

"you can refocus later and apply blur in the background. We tested that and it works just as promised" No, I am pretty sure you can't refocus, they just call it refocusing. You can choose the areas which shouldn't be blurred by software, but you can't refocus.

Love the Community, 05 Apr 2019Whenever HMD Nokia wants a sequel to Nokia 9 PureView, they... moreAlso for the next PureView, they should get the latest Snapdragon 860/865 since they knew how to code and optimize from that so they can get the latest chip and have it done in a quarter of the time it takes to make 6 cameras do that.

Whenever HMD Nokia wants a sequel to Nokia 9 PureView, they should get the best three sensors. Same IMX sensor as the Huawei P30 pro for the main camera but uses RGBW filter instead of RYYB, best available IMX sensor for Ultrawide and a refined Periscope camera, plus a ToF sensor on front and back.

This device has very poor high iso performance for 3 monochrome sensors camera.
Shots with XZ2 premium iso51200 have better texture,

Return Nokia to Finland! Otherwise it will stay mediocre mid level

4 stars? That sounds like a lot for a device with so many downsides. The one thing it's build for sucks after all..

So let's see. By default it takes photos with mediocre detail in daylight, with heavy oversharpening. It has terrible low-light performance. Dynamic range is not better than other flagships. Also, the video recording is terrible as well.

The only way you can get good photos out of this camera is if you edit them in lightroom, which nobody does. (except photographers, who don't use phones for photography).

This phone is no successor to PureView 808 or 1020. That's all...
