mukhi, 17 Apr 2019Like you I have used and liked Ubuntu and some other Linux ... moreIf you talk about productivity as a Desktop Users. Yes.. linux is bad.
Casual users like gamers, "photoshop"ers, etc should stay away from it.
Linux is much more suitable for server works, developers works, and computer researches.

Developing aps is much more easier with linux/mac compared to windows.

mukhi, 17 Apr 2019Linux is very good at the university level, but mostly fail... moreNope.
Most corporate SERVERS runs linux. Even Microsoft Azure OS is based on linux.
Linux is Failed in Desktop segment. But in Server/Cloud segment, it is the King.

The fact is that most corporate SW and ERPs are Windows based. Using WINE and VM is not a good idea all the time.

some very rare programs might not be available which there is probably a workaround for it!
so i don't see why it might have limitation on productivity which i personally never had happen to see in my 12 year of pure linux usage!(in this 12 year i only used linux i do run some games under wine which is no more a problem with the help of proton and steam)

"Linux Deploy" it is not good not even powerfull enough to run mid to heavy programs, Imagen with all the base android os need resource and Linux Deploy need resource and linux himself need resource what you would get is not a pleasing experience!
Personally rather to have STH like maemo or sailfish os
also a simple linux distro will cover anything for normal users up until gamers!

Alien , 17 Apr 2019With a bit of research you can install a Linux OS on your p... moreLike you I have used and liked Ubuntu and some other Linux OSs. But I don't like rooting since it voids warranty (if one has money to burn, one can go for rooting even in a new HW). Rooting may also make your OS more vulnerable to attack.
Despite that I consider myself a little advanced in terms of using Linux (like you said, use of WINE, terminal, etc.), IMHO, Linux has its own limitations as far as productivity is considered. For instance, the cross-platform photo editing program GIMP is available in Linux (which is a good thing, and there are many other powerful and useful programs), but there are programs that are not available in Linux.
It'll be good to see if the phone/tab OEMs allow installation of a Linux OS without rooting via a dual boot (like you can do it in a Windows PC).

"Samsung's omitted non-essential bits - the 512GB of built-in storage do make a microSD slot non-essential and a 3.5mm jack is perhaps at odds with the uber-premium nature of the Fold."

There is MORE THAN ENOUGH SPACE for the microSD slot & 3.5mm jack as STANDARD & CHOICE for that HUGE price!! Goda** it!! SERIOUSLY!! Regardless whether "uber-premium" or not!!

Anonymous, 17 Apr 2019Computer is subjective to each person. But at this size ... moreWell i can't agree with you!
As mukhi said computer is not subject to person liking
For what os is good i would go either by linux or windows(linux currently has good and optimized ARM version and windows seems to started this path and early versions with ARM are out) which would eliminate need of any thing else!

mukhi, 17 Apr 2019A computer means a computer, no question of being subjectiv... moreWith a bit of research you can install a Linux OS on your phone. Assuming you root it.
Search for Linux Deploy app once you've rooted your phone. If you're new to this field, I suggest you try first on a older phone until you get acquainted with it.
I have my old Sony phone (rooted with locked bootloader) on which I've installed Ubuntu. I access it from my S7+ through VNC Viewer.
For a 6 year old phone with just 2GB RAM, I can ever run GIMP which isn't quite a light program.
The purpose of it is just for fun in my case (I'm starting to love Linux), though you can do a LOT of things with it.
It's not working 100%, so do expect some glitches here and there..
Windows is successful because many, but many people refuse from the start to give Linux just a try to see what it looks like.
You can do a lot from the terminal, but there are also many programs with GUI. Free.
There's a program called Wine, that let's you install and run exe files on Linux. So you can do the same things on Linux that you do on windows.
By the way, if you understand how the terminal in Linux works, you are halfway to programming ;)
Just give it a a chance. Don't be a sheep like the rest!

Till date, Windows is best for productivity jobs, accept it or not. Android has a potential, but it's still far from being practical (Dex is still way too immature). Even iOS has a potential, but Apple won't make it happen.

I am waiting for this new technology but my concern is battery life as if my phoned from Samsung its dying quickly from using

and Samsung Flod battery shown is 4380 but if we think about using it in the big screen for how long can stay the battery couz its will be like I use triple size of the outside screen

But at this size and SoC. Its gonna suck even if its Windows OS. No apps. No games. Everything x86 cannot be installed. Lag.

Better be Android. Well suited with limited resources. Plus this come with dex mode, that allows you to attach Monitor and keyboard to have desktop like experience. (Well almost.. Because of Android Pie did not do compulsory multi-app resume, you might need to wait till Android Q for that feature, ). And Dex mode allows you to install Linux OS or any Number of VMs, which is more accustom to running in arm environment.

                                    - NO SD card slot
                                    - NO 3.5mm jack
                                    - it has a wrinkle in the middle of the display

I'll wait for the 3rd or 4th generation, when hopefully they will add those 2 features and fix the display.

No they won't, foldables going to be small niche products because of their size and weight and the fact that people just doesn't need these devices.

Companies currently can't drop the weight or thinness with phones so they can't do that with foldables either because you basicly have same thing inside what your phone have now.

I'll buy a folded phone ONLY if it can be used as a computer. Can Android OS do what Windows OS can do? I know, I know, some people will say, "That depends". But that's not the answer I'm looking for when im willing to spend $2000 on a device.
