How can you test a MOBILE phone without testing the MOBILE aspect of it? like the battery?

If you have the best hardware and it lasts you 10 minutes... that's hardly any use right? In fact I'll say the shorter the battery life, the worst off the phone is.

If i'm going to PLAY a game, no matter how good the experience, it'll really be bad if I can only play it for 30 min.

That's what thermal throttling is for: It lets us play for a longer time period, albeit at a degraded experience.

Hey. Great article. Should have included the ROG 1 and Razer Phone 2. Those two were great gaming phones.

Most mobile gaming are freemium, casual or multiplayer online, there are game with high quality graphic like asphalt 9, but you cant even compare it with nfs series at pc gaming because of freemium,

Until then, a bigger device will always outperform a pocket or mobile device. Has been so since the first laptop was released and will be so until we live in that pipe dream when pocket sized superconducting processors are real.
VR will keep evolving past 16k displays and a contemporary ultra-high-end gaming rig can't even do 30 fps on an 8k display.

Of course! Look at their prices :)
Red Magic's screen is the best on any Android phone, excluding OnePlus 7 Pro screen.

I already have a gaming laptop with GTX1060 6GB inside it, so I'm not particularly looking at gaming when I pick a phone. I occasionally play PUBG-M on my family phone.

For me, the mobile features matter the most. The audio quality, good enough to replace a dedicated audio player and of course, the camera is important.

                      Nice article, I enjoyed that.
Though just as someone said before with Switch lite coming at $199 later, this gaming phones feels rather niche. Don't get me wrong, I know how popular moba games like ML or AoV are and I see Switch more for single player experience gaming so not exactly fair comparison.

Xperia 1 in game mode is top of all (screen and cpu, gpu gaming mode settings). The minus of it is the battery capacity but still for its size does best from its software optimization. The worst is S10 exynos and Huawei kirin as results of me and my friends real life tests. Dedicated gaming phones are only by cooling and design, but still not better than others in this test.

Most phones are tested for camera, gaming scores, multi media play back times for battery performance.

Phones are meant for communication. All the above are additional or secondary functions included in a modern smart phone.

But no phone is tested in detail for primary functions like call quality. Mobile signal strengths tests for call stability in remote and far flung areas with weak tower signals. Voice clarity on calls. Speaker function test for suppression of noise feed back while using loudspeaker. Voice echo test.

All these are never done for any mobile test report.

I still use the Poco F1 for gaming which fared poorly in your tests but for me it has been delivering great performance consistently even with extended gaming sessions, say 2+ hrs. I play PUGB, AOV and War Robots on the highest settings. Synthetic benchmarks are one thing but real world performance is another. Most mid to high end chips can handle games easily now as game developers would want their game to be played by as many people as possible so they keep the hardware requirements to a minimum. Also mobile gaming is not at a point where performance more that 60fps is needed or necessary, in most scenarios being capped at 30fps anyway. For most people a good well rounded phone more advisable unless you must have the absolute best performance and/or you play mobile games competitively at tournaments and so on.

Amazing research done here. Can we have a OnePlus 7 vs 7 Pro comparison just like this one. It would be interesting to see how much of a difference the liquid cooling on the pro makes.
