Compact? I have an xa2 which is smaller than most of these. And to the person saying the SE 2020 is the most compact in this list didn't compare the phone sizes.

Other than maybe the new iPhone SE none of these are even close to compact. I went for the smallest Android possible, the S10e, but it's still too big and the screen is way larger than the smartphones of 5 years ago. I can't touch a rather large part of the screen without heavily stretching my finger and started having wrist pain after less than a week. Is it too much to ask that companies start designing smartphones for humans again?

Its a good Compromise on Price, Speed, Size, Weight.
        A51 Dimensions Screen 6.5, 128GB, 4/6 Ram, Op 10,
        W 73.6 X L 7.9 X 7.9T
        Weight = 172
        Bat 4000

The S20 is an expensive option if you want more power, compact, and weight.

If you just make some calls per week the Iphone SE is likely to endure about 3, maybe 4 days without charging.
I think the Iphone SE is what fits best to your description of what you want, it's one of the smallest on the market if you don't want an used one, the operating system is quite easy to handle and it will last you much more years than any android phone.
I'm assuming that even if you just make some calls a week you want to buy an smartphone, if not, buy a simple phone with keys, the battery of those will last you a week and they cost about 40€

Anonymous, 19 May 2020"It will easily last a full day" is judged with assumptions... morei just watch some local review on YouTube, it claims that this phone still have 100% battery after 5 hours on stand by. so yeah, this phone likely will last a week or longer

For me a compact phone is a phone that can be put into the front pocket of a pair of skinny jeans and that can withstand sitting down and other movements without the phone peeking from the pocket or feeling uncomfortable. I currently own the S10e and I can verify that it meets my criteria. I admit, having used a 4.7-incher before S10e, that I had my doubts but I was pleasantly surprised.

jg, 17 May 2020What I want from a phone - the impossible. I'm almost 70... more"It will easily last a full day" is judged with assumptions that people use their phone like 10++ hours a day so yes, even SE would likely to last for 2/3 days. and since it still have bigger battery and more efficient chipset it might even last more than a week (although there's also much more program running on the background so don't expect much)

"What's the best phone to me go for which doesn't need charging five times a day and doesn't stick several inches out of my back pocket?"
your best bet is SE. small, somewhat affordable, and the most important is 4 years update guarantee which means most app would run just fine for at least 4 years (if we're talking about basic app, it will be much longer). the biggest downside of apple is their environment can be costly (basically you need airpods if you want an earphone, apple smartwatch if you want smartwatch etc) but i don't think you need to worry about it

It's sad when 5.8" and 5.9" phones are classed as compact. I remember when 5.5 was considered very large. It's hard to find a 'good' 5 inch android phone these days and you usually end up making big concessions.

I liked the iphone 4 and thought it was the perfect size. Fits just right but still big enough to use it for basic tasks. Now it's impossible to find a phone that's anything less than 5-6 inches.

I searched high and low and the only "modern" phone under 4.5 inches tall is the Palm, and it has terrible battery life and is almost too small. Just give me a modern 4.5x2.3 inch phone!

What I want from a phone - the impossible.

I'm almost 70 years old, highly tech savvy, but hate mobiles. But I have to get a new one for contact-less purchases (e.g. Google Pay). What is more, I hate carrying round something akin to a small laptop in my back pocket. The ideal size-wise would be the IPhone SE (4.7"). But they say the battery life of the IPhone SE sucks. So that's no good because when you're as old as me, you are so tired at night, you just want to get into bed as fast as possible rather than having to fuss with charging a mobile.

My current phone (LG GD510 - 2010 tech and only 10cm tall) lasts me around 6 days without charging since I virtually never use it. Great - I can forget it until my wife nags me that she couldn't contact me because my phone was dead.

So first question. If a review says "It will easily last a full day", what does that mean for someone who never uses his phone except to make one phone call a week? Will I get 2 days out of it - or maybe even 3 or 4?

Second question. What's the best phone to me go for which doesn't need charging five times a day and doesn't stick several inches out of my back pocket?
