It is released in Japan and it doesn't do any good for gsmarena. They are doing there review on the test unit of xperia 1 and not the final sale unit which is available in Japan.

I am tempted to buy one, as I have been waiting for this. but, honestly, I want to pro version because of the hdi port. If I were Sony, I would hold off on releasing the Pro version until next year when they have supply and can add the 875 chipset. after all, we are half way through 2020 anyway.

Same for all BBK phones.
So happy to have 25 minutes full charging tech while spending 20$, even if have to do each year.

as usual, more comments on xperia article...
i wonder why some are more techy than the review itself...
how some sony fanboys argue with others with facts... but is left and thrown another issue...
and sony fanboys with less facts too...
and why do some people call 4k gimmick when contents are available?
and battery optimisation of sony? i thought most are already educated about it? still complaining?
and to sony fanboys who are telling other fanboys that xperia last for years... stop that, i think most people want to upgrade every year... wait, i still have with me miro, z1 compact, z3 and z5 premium!
oh, and let them bash xperia devices, so few people buy them... that means price cut! yey! and before others can buy it, it is out of stock...

I reme... moreI don't know what Sony device you had, but my son still plays frequently with my Xperia Acro S from 2011 and the battery is fine for a couple of hours...
My daily Xperia XZ is 3 years old and the battery degradation is down to about 80% which is ok, considering the amount of cycles and PUBG sessions it's got.
Sony's battery and battery care system is one of the major reasons I might stick with them on my next upgrade.

I remember one Xperia user had smoke coming out of the speaker vent.
Use of Third grade batteries in cheap chassis will do this.
You see how that works??

RGB ... moreYou just proved my point. There are half the number of each of R and B pixels compared to G, hence the resolutions for R and B are also a half of G. So what do you need to do in order to calculate vertical and horizontal resolutions of R and B? Divide those of G by square root of 2. Not 2, because you're not quartering the total resolution.
I probably should've been clearer about the fact that the vertical/horizontal resolutions aren't the same as the numbers of outermost pixels from each side in the diagram, just in case you're confused.

Gsmarena is probably the best website for info regarding Cell phones. The thing which really amuse me is, it is unfair to write a review on a product which is not available in the Market yet. the classic case is of Sony Xperia 1 Mark ii.
The phone has not been released in the Market, it still has unfinished software and doing nitpicking on an unfinished software is really uncalled for.

Nick.B, 30 May 2020What I see with my eyes is not marketing. I own the device.... moreso you own one device with and OLED screen that you think is cool, fine, congratulations.
Have you ever owned a device like LG G4? G5? HTC U11? XZ Premium? These are the most famous examples of real 1440p and 2160p on an IPS screen.
If no, you haven't owned any device with a really high resolution IPS display, so you're comparing facts to your own imagination. Bravo.

Anonymous, 31 May 2020Upscaled 4k is not going to be as good as native 4k.
Half ... moreNative 4K content = 4K BluRay only, everything else is lesser quality.
Streaming in 1080p has quality of 720p while streaming in UHD has 1080p quality no matter the platform being Netflix or Apple or something else. When you stream you are already duping down on quality big time. Some TVs like Sony with X-Ultimate can really do wonders when they upscale to UHD so it's not as noticeable. Now Xperia does not have that upscaling power at all despite sharing the same technology name but at least they are trying something.
But like other poster has been saying through this thread you don't need to worry about resolution on pentile displays as they are a scam pretty much. None of pentile OLED displays have the actual resolution they claim they have due to irregular number of subpixels. There is no way in hell you can replace Blue dot by enabling two greens or something like that. If your image has lot's of deep blue and purple and magenta you can as heck be sure that none of the extra greens light up so resolutions has already been downscaled without you even knowing it.
Have you wondered why vivid screen mode is the brightest one but it's NOT color accurate cause gamma cannot track? Gamma cannot track cause extra green subpixels are dialed in, they produce extra brightness but they throw off the color science. Pentile OLED is a said compromise but because screens are so small they can get away with it. No point of discussing it cause it's too complex for the sake of being cheaper than supreme LCD display. Just take a look at Sharp mobile displays to see what's the display with 0 compromises

I think this is where you're doing your calculation wrong, no offence. On diamond pentile matrix there are only HALF the number of each of red and blue pixels compared to green pixels. What you're suggesting is that R and B resolutions are only QUARTER of G - that is, the number of R and B pixels are also quartered from G.
Think of WQHD pentile as a WQHD green pixels combined with FHD blue and FHD red pixels. I hope this clears things up.
