Inferior to the competition in its price category in every imaginable, but... 4.3! Only GSMa...

Anonymous, 29 May 2020Your oppo has 8+2 bit screen. Just like this one and op8 ... moreOppo has true 10bit display.
Xperia is garbage. It simply struggles to output brighter images.

    Doesn't even get Hdr800 certification.
    4k gimmick.
    Battery hog.
    90hz motion blur gimmick.
1200$ for half baked panel, No Thanx.

Find X2 pro/OP8 pro unanimously has the best panel on smartphones this year.
Everyone's favorite display of the year. All reviewers have confirmed this.

Android Master, 29 May 2020Also the panel is dim barely reaching 600 nits in full auto... moreYa. Pretty disappointed. Not a deal breaker for me personally but definitely dropped the ball in those areas
especially brightness as this was a very common complaint last year.

Cannot believe ppl that read tech do not know this.
Oled phones are better be below 400 nits to preserve screen as long as possible.

It is not like LCD that allows to use 700, 800 or 1000 nits as much as you want without damages.

Nice to see main camera does not turn landscape into wax like Oppo, OnePLus and Motorola.

GSMArens has pointed lack of 4K on a 8MP front cam of this phone and telephoto of OP8 Pro, despite both being uncapable of doing it because of the resolution.

All Xperia 4K can do 4K on youteb except Z5P. I do not know where they got this from.

All cons pointed against last generation were solved, looks like they needed to " find" more to justify not giving a 4,6 for example.

Lots of features are not in this review. No mention of Cirrus Logic audio chip, the 360 degree audio, reduction of crosstalk to 20% for jack, no AF abilities.

AnonD-546724, 29 May 2020So, actually, the Xperia 1 II screen runs at 1,096 x 2,560,... moreAlso the panel is dim barely reaching 600 nits in full auto max mode.
And as predicted, 90hz motion blur is nothing but gimmick.

SpiritWolf, 29 May 2020Pretty much hate people who are giving themselves thumb up.... moreI love this phone, trust me

21W charging sounds slow but thanks to battery care the cell might
last twice longer than 65W phones

Top notch camera department, even with the ultra wide by night, which I believe is a first

Classic (but not boring), timeless design with dual IP certification, GG6 on both sides

Both 3.5mm Jack AND micro SDXC slot

There's so much to like and indeed there's so much I like about it, but man this 4K resolution that's not really there is bothering me

Even though is more developers than Sony's fault for not having 4K textures.
But why not just upscaling then ??

By the way, too bad you need to wait until march/2021 at least to get android 11, while this one will have it by november.

You cannot review a demo unit unless they send you a demo unit.
                    Sony's fault.

There is still some bit of oversharpening thereabout though not that visible, but I'm not gonna lie here - the photo quality is miles better than last year's Xperia 1 even in full Auto mode. Also, I'm definitely not seeing a lot of noise here.

The only ONE thing that is going to stop me from buying this Xperia 1 ii is the OnePlus 8 Pro. All other Android flagships are pretty much forgettable to me, but not that particular OnePlus.

Anonymous, 29 May 2020"Going for DRO doesn't offer the convenience or ease of use... moreExactly that. You should tap on hotspot on the screen and DRO should pull up the shadows, in theory. Not sure it works properly on this phone. I appreciate GSMArena Auto HDR enthusiasm but to me those HDR photos look washed out, I don't like them a bit. I'm glad Sony doesn't try to tweak contrast on HDR shots cause that makes them even worse.

What I find surprising is that Camera app takes better night time picture than Photo Pro. It doesn't screw with the shadows, it leaves them deep but contains the highlights while Photo Pro with no HDR has issues with blown out highlights and in HDR mode it does the typical lets turn night into a day time thing.

You likely do not get 12 megapixels at 70mm.
If the resolution is between 11.5 and 12.5 megapixels at 70mm, the pixel size must be between 0.84 and 0.88 micrometers due to the Exif focal length of 6.95mm. Sony and Samsung don't produce mobile camera sensors with such a pixel size as far as I know. Furthermore the resolution of the sensor must be less than 20 megapixels, otherwise the specs are simply not possible mathematically. Furthermore the 70mm sample images do look upscaled. It's more likely that the pixel size is 1.0 micrometer, this means that you only get 8.9 effective megapixels at 70mm.

                                        Crop factor = 70mm/6.95mm = 10.072
                                        Sensor diagonal at 70mm = 43.267mm / crop factor = 4.296mm
                                        Sensor area at 70mm field of view = Diagonal² x cos(arctan(3/4)) x sin(arctan(3/4)) = 8.86mm²
                                        Pixel size = sqrt(8.86mm² / 12000000) = sqrt(8860000 micrometer² / 12000000) = 0.86 micrometer and if the resolution is 11.5 megapixels instead of 12.0, then sqrt(8860000 micrometer² / 11500000) = 0.877 micrometer
