Smithravi, 29 May 2020Why does this review looks like made by a biased guy.
-... moreI don't think it's a clear bias, so much as this site needs to update their review methodology a bit. They review all phones in a cookie cutter way, only really covering the basics of each phone. This actually has an advantage, as you can look at several reviews here, and compare the basic features easily.
Unfortunately that means if a phone offers something unique - especially smaller ones like audio enhancements - they get ignored. They do mention the shutter button, one of my favourite little things about Xperia phones - but only in a negative way. Too small, forces the camera to have a "correct" orientation in landscape mode...
Even worse is when pretty significant features get ignored. All the pro tools this camera offers are being ignored, only really comparing the auto modes, like DRO vs HDR... This is a pretty big miss in an important flagship review.
They need to be more open with the criticism of the phones they're reviewing. I think they just got complacent for being one of the biggest long-format mobile review sites (the biggest maybe?)

Hi GSMA,
Several remarks:
- Your display results are awkward, to say the least. I believe that needs to be reviewed.
- What about 360 Audio?
- Regarding DRO. Well, it's not there to make you feel good. It is useful, however, when shooting fast-moving objects at 20fps. HDR won't keep up.
- You're testing a smartphone that can do 20fps (!) and say nothing about it, not to mention a sample...WTF??? Very unprofessional and quite disappointing.

Android Master, 30 May 2020Every 120hz panel consumed maximum 10-15% more juice compar... more15% if you use 120Hz refresh rates less often. There is a youtube video where he basically used 120Hz for about just 30min scrolling with time gaps. Imagine playing a game for 2 hours or using twitter and instagram or facebook for 1 hour. That 15% will become 50%. Just to give you faster animation, you are willing to sacrifice your battery life, yet calling 4K a battery hog. How hypocrite.

Anonymous, 30 May 2020Display not as bright as key competitors, the 4K resolution... more"Not as bright as competitors" = Accurate colors at all brigthness levels + No burn ins
"Charging is slower than most" - 0-100% yes, 50% in 30min is still faster and is enough for long term battery life. Apple/Samsung also uses 18 and 25W and not 65W on their flagships. You lost your brain schells.
"No 4K60 video recording in the native app"= Use your fingers to open cinema pro, it was given to use and you're paying for its features.
1200$ for this phone with 250$ free headset makes it cheaper than 1070$ OP 8 Pro.

8+2 just like one plus. Only ROG II has 10bit oled.
ColorOS is poor iOS copycat.
Oppo and vivo are the last to update phones.
X20+ UD never got next android. Almost $700 phone.
X2 Pro photos make scene made of wax. It will be below 3400mAh before the end of the year because both batteries will be damaged by the 65W,

Anonymous, 30 May 2020Plenty of phones have 3d audio in 2020, nothing special. You are really stupid if you think 3D and 360 degree audio is same. Also It does not only needs a hardware but also software. And only 2 apps support 360 degree, Tidal and deezer and may be one more. And nope, no other smartphone offers 360 degree audio except Sony Xperia 1 II.

I have been a loyal follower of GSMarena and their reviews are the best, but today's review is the rawest, most superficial, incomplete in recent weeks. I want to request that it be withdrawn and once it is complete it is re-published, so that it has the level of excellence that it has had with other evaluations

Display not as bright as key competitors, the 4K resolution has little practical benefit.
Charging is slower than most.
No 4K60 video recording in the native app.
1200$ for this phone in the US?
LOL... S20 plus(Snapdragon) , OnePlus 8 pro are cheaper and are simply better.
Most users except loyal fans aren't putting their eggs in the Sony basket.
Who knows 2 years from now, Sony smartphone department might legit be extinct.

Wait, so why is audio output not tested? That's actually offensive, when we need it most you guys remove that part of the review? Why do so many "reviews" make so many excuses for anti consumer trends (that's what this is, make no mistake). That's actually a decently sizable thorn in the credibility of GSMarena, wow. If we're going to buy a phone with a headphone jack, we want to know if it's going to actually sound better than Bluetooth... Because sometimes they don't! Obviously! This is a 1000 dollar phone with one of the headlining features being a high quality headphone jack! The idea that you guys are too lazy to do tests like that when it's more relevant than ever, wow.

Anonymous, 29 May 2020Your oppo has 8+2 bit screen.
Just like this one and op8 ... moreFind X2 pro has true 10bit display and brighter 3k panel and runs at 3k all the time with 120hz buttery smooth operation. Sony sports 60hz which is so 2016.
Also, It doesn't downgrade like Sony to 1080p.
All these guys who said, ppl who buy Sony, buy it for 4k. Half the time, 4k isn't even available on Xperia 1 II. Total Fail!
Also I doubt this display is durable in the long run.

Smithravi, 29 May 2020Why does this review looks like made by a biased guy.
-... moreI agree - I don't really like the sarcastic tone in some parts of the review, though maybe that is what GSMArena is like now, as the score seems relatively good, though IMO this seems the best phone on the market. Mentioning sales is irrelevant in a review conclusion (espicially considering how many sheep there are out there) and saying Sony don't want to sell millions is obvious nonsense.
Why would a 3.5mm jack only be for "older" headphones when it is SUPERIOR to have full stop, and ridiculous it were ever removed? GSMArena should be standing up for the consumer here and demanding this back on ALL reviews.
You do also know GSMArena that fast charging with that much current is bad for your battery? You do not need 65W charging and 21W is indeed fine. The same for the refresh rates. Sony should be commended for the slow charging option.
And why is it "weird" that Sony now sensibly makes the 3 button navbar default when it has superior usability and to this Apple-inspired swiping rubbish? While they are at it, Sony should put back their own more intuitive icons again rather than using the silly Google ones where "circle" and "square" mean nothing.
I wouldn't say not having Album isn't an issue - it was superior to Google Photos, especially before they removed the excellent "Places" view. I hope you can still download it. And stop enncouraging Sony to ditch the excellent Music app as well - many of us still carry a lot of music on our phones - your prophecy that just because streaming apps are nice, that this should be removed is stupid.
Sony has also said that a night mode is coming in an update.
This review also mentions absolutely nothing on the 5G connectivity which I would have liked to see.

Nevitas, 29 May 2020Better battery life and 120hz don't go in the same sentenceEvery 120hz panel consumed maximum 10-15% more juice compared to that in 60hz mode in gsmarena endurance charts.
It's the 4k display which is battery hog.

I'm so glad to see the results of the pictures, they just look natural and with good details. I DON'T GET how gsmA can praise about the oversaturated photos that the flagS take lately. They are not even able to capture a proper blue sky, it looks Awful, plastic, fake. I Would throw away my galaxy if I could have this babe. :[
* Kinda concerned about the screen not being 4k all the time
