So 5G speed in reality is an advertised speed of current 4G.

For us, we know it has little effect on the human body, but it is the same as the rest of the networks(or similar). But if you eat veggies and fruit, it should have minimal effect on you.

5G is more hype and for spec sheet sniffing fans. People trying to find an excuse to "upgrade" their phone they just got last fall. Seriously what's the use with 5G when mobile companies are capping your data at 3g-6g per month. True 5G will eat that in a few minutes.

...there isn't one. This is literally an experiment they're doing on us. We're guinea pigs to find out how it affects the population.

the real 5G in USA is still far behind others. in the race Chinese phone are in the lead, Huawei phones faster than other Chinese phones.
half of 0202 has gone. still no good 5G phones for north America since many Chinese phone has bands can support rest of world but not made for NA.
currently only 1+8 tmobile version, motot edge+ has both tmobile att bands. 1+8 is the only phone support NA bands. very limited for consumer, so slow down 5G development.

Nice text! I'm thinking in buying a new phone in the next 2 or 3 months and this article support my thoughts: it is very difficult to find a new flagship killer under the €500 because of the 865 SoC. I wonder, why can't the makers use the 2019 855 more? Right now I'm between the oneplus 7T and the Samsung S10 lite... All the others are above that € limit... (keep it up Gsmarena)

Anonymous, 15 Jun 2020While 5G has potential for the internet of things, or for c... more"Internet of things" is inherently a bad model anyway, and is an idea that should go away.
Connecting many small computing devices to the open Internet is inviting a security disaster. Botnets formed from hacked routers and webcams is already a wide problem.
It is much better to use devices paired to a master control server at home and then make sure that _it_ gets proper security updates in a timely fashion. Such a system would use local-area protocols, so you won't need 5G at all.

So it's safe to say that if your carrier built a 4G network adapted to your area, 5G isn't of much use just yet. Buy 4G stuff with confidence.

4G is still the way to be. You don't even get the full 4G speeds unless you live in near a city centre or right under some local 4G capable phone tower.
You can get the full promised speeds even on the country side, but only when the local phone tower is in low usage.
Also the 5G phones are HUUUGE slabs that are too big to be used well 1 handed. 6 to 7 inch huge slabs. COME ON!!! Keep them under 6 inch for reasonable 1 handed usage for the average sized person.

Those are my LTE speeds and latency. Wow.
I guess there's a few more variables to take into account like how many bands are made available, carrier investments, density of population...
(My speedtest: https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/6182636895 and I was a bit far from the towers, only had 3 bars lol)

5G tech is not for downloading or uploading content. I mean you could do that, but 99% of carriers provide limited amount of data which makes the speed of 5g impractical over 4g. You can exhaust your data within seconds. 5g is for cloud computing and AI over the air. Driverless cars and trains, automated mechanics.. etc

While 5G has potential for the internet of things, or for cloud-based phone gaming, for the average user it's bleh.
Maybe you can watch 8k Youtube videos on your 6" phone screen and pretend that you can tell the difference if 8k was really available. Or maybe you can download an app in 5 seconds instead of 7seconds. But that's about it. Anyway, it will be baked into every flagship, so it's not like we have a real choice but to pay for it.

Whackcar, 15 Jun 2020Here's my suggestion. If you're buying a budget phone or a ... more” Since you're already spending good amount of cash on your new phone, it makes sense to pay a bit more to experience the latest technology just because you can. ”
I will buy 4G model if it’s possible, i know i won’t have 5G connection in long time.
Also ”just because you can” cost you more every month, it’s not like you buy 5G phone and start using it, you need expensive 5G data plan too.
I’m ready for 5G when it doesn’t add any extra cost for me, neither phone or data plan. That just shows how hard it is going to sell 5G for masses. Most doesn’t even have fastest 4G

Here's my suggestion. If you're buying a budget phone or a midranger, then go for the 4G version & save the money. 5G is a few years away from going mainstream, so it makes sense to save some cash on a feature you won't be utilizing.
If however you're buying a $800+ flagship phone, then it makes sense to pay a bit more & go for the advanced 5G version. Since you're already spending good amount of cash on your new phone, it makes sense to pay a bit more to experience the latest technology just because you can. Also, 5G models will have a higher resale value than 4G models for obvious reasons.
