Today, LTE coverage is st... moreAbsolutely, I can get 4g many areas but only 3g in some other areas, 5G will be way worse than 4g, it will be years before one will get even 5g coverage. Definitely a waste of time right now besides applications/services that will take full advantage of 5G are nonexistent today.

Kirin is a bit slower because it has to send your private data back to Beijing first.

5G everywhere in 3 years? LOL.
Today, LTE coverage is still pathetic in many parts of the world, and most carriers are not even using VoLTE (still relying on 3G/2G for voice). That's today How long since we have VoLTE/4G? Yeah, not holding my breath for 5G being "everywhere."
And we have not even discussed the band compatibility between different countries. Majority of 4G phones aside from iPhones and flagship Samsungs are still equipped with few LTE bands just to support LTE in specific regions.

Hey, curved screens were once cool, too. The only compelling use case for 5G that I can think of is VR glasses, which can be made lightweight as it will just contain the display, 5G antenna and battery, sans the computing unit (even then, why not just use WiFi?). Use cases other than wearables need not be so lightweight that they could not provide computing power of their own. Even self driving cars should be aware of their surroundings by virtue of real time visual perception and not rely solely on server GPS data.

Mrazish, 16 Jun 2020I can't understand - why are you testing 5G? That's not act... moreForget poorest regions, theres no 5g in the entire country. They dont specifically write articles targeting any country anyway.

5G is not enough tested regarding human health.
Besides, 4G is more than enough on personal devices such as smartphones.
95% of the bandwidth goes for non-productive activities such as video streaming.
You can't work on mobile phone.

5G is not worth it at the moment for the high price of the device .. when the 5G phone price drops to the same level of 4G I will consider paying more for it , at that time 5G will be even faster and wider spread worldwide .

5G is just a gimmick, period. Many poorer and underdeveloped countries can't even provide reliable 4G coverage, let alone 5G.
Upgrading to 5G now is an excuse to look fancy as your handset will be significantly behind in the next few years, not to mention component degradation and wear and tear. Heck, mmWave signals are so unreliable that you need to be close to the tower to gain that speed boost.
The 5G hype is over the top. Most Android flagships switching to 5G way too fast and they retail a price more than an overpriced iPhone or a decent laptop. Luckily, many Asian (except China and S.Korea) and probably South American countries do not receive a lot of those useless 5G phones.
Thought the Mi 10 was gonna retail like heck, but now it turns out to be budget friendly because it omits 5G in here. Might consider upgrading my Galaxy to that phone once the price drops again or wait until EOFY deal.

Really good piece GSMA, enjoyed reading this.
Now the Huawei P40 Pro is looking really good for me at about $790 in my country. Lets see if I could survive this pandemic first.

I'm more interested in latency. There's enough bandwidth to do most things on 4G, the real interesting part is how much 5G improves on latency.

Hello Life, 15 Jun 20205G tech is not for downloading or uploading content. I mean... moreIsn't that a paradox? Those use cases you cited hardly use any bandwidth at all. Put it another way, wouldn't 4G suffice, or even superior vis-a-vis signal attenuation?

If you have the money and you lived in a 5G covered area, maybe this time is the best to get into the bandwagon while there's still no congestion. You'll get faster connection. It will be just like 4G in the early days. Once everyone gets in, well you know what'll happen.
Just my two cents.

next time before RUN the network speedtest, close the background application and clear the ram first. off the GPS too. FYI, Qualcom is the best chipset to test network speed instead Exynos. Good luck.
