IPhone 12 pro Max using IMX 603 according to Kimovil.

This sensor is far weaker in quality than the 1/1.7" Sony IMX 555 on Galaxy S20 series and
the Xperia 5 II.
It's probably similar in quality to 1/1.7" GW sensors from Samsung.

This is true the best of the best plus one

MrHong, 21 Nov 2020The one in the iPhone 11 is Sony IMX686, this was disclosed... moreNope. IMX 686 are Quad Bayer 64mp sensor at 1/1.7" size.

All iphone 11 & 12 (except 12 Pro Max) use a small 1/2.55" sensors.

Judging by 12mp at 1.7um pixel size on 12 Pro Max, it is likely a 1/1.8" sensor size. The IMX series remains a mystery.

Surprising that Apple still uses watercolor noise reduction. Looks so ugly.

Anonymous, 21 Nov 2020Check the exmor page on wiki to see if it is there already.... more there is nothing on the exymor page regarding what iPhone 12 pro Max is using.
IMX 603?? Didn't see that either.

YUKI93, 21 Nov 2020Apple has always been super secretive about the sensor modu... moreSome apps show it.
Exmor page on wiki has list of sensors used by iphones.
From 7+ to Xs, second cam was Isocell.
11 series has exmor only.

I do not knowmif anyone else has noticed this.
Brands do not seem to have same efforts to ultra wide.

For example, the UWA of S20 has similar hardware used by cam of S9.
But even if you use S9 with f2.4 option, it still performs better than the UWA of S20.

Anonymous, 21 Nov 2020wow Review score is worse than Iphone 11 Pro MaxThat's probably because the iPhone 11 Pro Max is the better phone. At least it came with charger and headphones in the box. The design also made it more comfortable to hold. The 12 Pro Max doesn't do anything better than last year's phone. And battery life is worse this year as well.

"Maybe less sharpening and more efforts on high-frequency detail instead of HDR would help."

Couldn't be any more true! Really not happy with the camera software processing. This is not any different than last year's iPhone 11 Pro/Pro Max. There's way too much oversharpening involves. That is why I still maintain that the A12 iPhones produce way better photo quality than A13 and A14 iPhones.

The iPhone 12 achieves 84% stability on a newly configured phone, but it drops to 75% when we populated it with apps such as Facebook, Skype, Whatsapp, Messenger, Bluetooth accessories, etc.
But I was under the impression that iOS was so stable and so optimized... 😱
