Mikeromeoz, 27 Apr 2021I admit, your argument has some weight to it. But that does... moreThey are already a major player and this device is already better than what Samsung is offering.

Anonymous, 27 Apr 2021The price is far. Just needs usb3.1 next year. It just... moreBut other brands like Apple and Sony have flagship devices that cost cheaper to make than MI 11 ultra. So technically MI 11 ultra profits remain lower than other companies

This is what a premium device looks and operates like.
Only flagship worthy of 1000$ price tag.
        Other manufacturers should take notes.

Dometalican, 27 Apr 2021Cons: -no MicroSD card slot -no 3.5mm Missed a coup... moreIt has a 3.5mm adapter. So not a con.

Missing a micro sd support is a con though.

Xiaomi phones are getting more and more enticing. Haven't had one since the Xiaomi note 2.

Awesome phone but in Europe it's a different ball game. With S21 Ultra offering discounts, Samsung brand, warranty and support, 95% of potential buyers will go Samsung route. Also there's the iPhone 12 pro max but that's another game ios x android.
Still, very good effort by Xiaomi, showing their best and competing with the best and at the same time offering very good midranges and very good budgets. They are everywhere now.

AnonD-546724, 27 Apr 2021Y'all need to stop whining about no 3.5mm Jack and no ... morePeople are using so much music players, care to tell why sales of ipods and walkman are not what they used to be 12 years ago? How often do you see people with ipod, walkman or even those simple mp3 players?
You cant use bluetooth on airplane. Wireless headphones are too big and earbuds have limited battery endurance. Not even counting the fact they are easy to be lost.

Micro sd is convenient, you take it out and in seconds you files are on new phone.
You can leave stuff there while leaving i ternal storage just for apps.

I do not blame xiaomi because it is old policy from them. Just like Apple and Google.
Problem is when you have, but suddenly remove.
It is just to increase profits.
But brands pretend it is about leaving space for battery and more waterproofing, which is a lie.

"We did entertain the idea for a 10x comparison against the S21 Ultra. After all, the Samsung has a much smaller sensor than the Mi for its 5x telephoto"
At 240mm the S21 Ultra uses a 93% larger(!) sensor area than the Xiaomi 11 Ultra because the S21 Ultra has a higher focal length (30.6mm vs 22mm).
At 240mm the S21 Ultra also captures 35% more light per time due to the larger effective diameter (6.24mm vs 5.37mm).
I looked at the 480mm daylight comparison and the S21 Ultra is slightly sharper. Though, the difference isn't huge. One reason is that the 11 Ultra periscope camera has a 48 megapixel Quad Bayer sensor, which is effectively a 12 megapixel Quad Bayer sensor at 240mm. Although one should definitely not expect the sharpness of a 48 megapixel Bayer sensor, in this case the 48 megapixel Quad Bayer tele samples do have slightly more detail than Xiaomi's 12 megapixel Bayer tele output, so the 240mm result is sharper than a 3 megapixel (12/2²=3) Bayer sensor at 240mm.
The second reason is diffraction. The periscope camera of the S21 Ultra only has a slightly larger effective diameter than the 11 Ultra (6.24mm vs 5.37mm), this means that at 240mm, the S21 Ultra suffers nearly as much from diffraction as the Xiaomi 11 Ultra. Regarding diffraction, the periscope camera of the S21 Ultra only has a 6.24/5.37 = 1.16x lossless zoom advantage over the Xiaomi 11 Ultra. (By the way, currently, an "Extremely Large Telescope" with an effective diameter of 39.3m is built, 6293 times as large as the effective diameter of the S21 Ultra.)

Nonetheless, I would still prefer the periscope hardware of the S21 Ultra as it will lead to slightly sharper results at 300mm, 600mm, 1200mm, etc. For small birds you need nearly always more than 700mm.

beep bop boop, 27 Apr 2021wait actually?Yeah, anywhere from 1.1-4.9x will just crop into the main camera, only at 5x will it switch to the telephoto. You're getting confused with the new variable optical zoom camera on the new Xperia 1 III. Every Tele lens on a phone since the 1 III has had a fixed focal length, therefore only one level of zoom it can do optically.

Y'all need to stop whining about no 3.5mm Jack and no Micro SD.
At this point, thoses things are not cons but rather a matter of personal taste.

A con is something that is universally recognized as a negative trait.
But for most people, 256GB of fast storage doesn't require a Micro SD slot, and
today's very high quality bluetooth headsets also killed the need for a 3.5MM.

You're like the people who complain againts the lack of manuals gearboxes on
today's sports cars. Dual clutch transmissions are better than manuals, just like bluetooth is more convenient than 3.5MM jack and loads of fast UFS better than a Micro-SD.

Hot-swapping Micro SDs ? Cool, nobody does that, your problem.
Unless you're a pro, then go get the Xperia Pro, it's the phone for you, end of the story.

Fancy using your ages old, dusty 3.5MM Headsets on a 2021 Flagship ? Your problem too.
Want to carry around your 150GB of FLAC music and listen to it through plugged-in studio quality 3.5MM Headphones ?
Cool, nobody does that either. People who are into this stuff are using dedicated FLAC players such as the Astell & Kern SR25.

                              So just quit whining jeez

Anonymous, 27 Apr 2021Me: A tiny screen to take self portrait? Nice, somebody is ... moreI admit, your argument has some weight to it. But that doesn't mean it is wrong for other, less-renowned manufacturers to try and play in the 'big leagues' such as this segment.

See, the biggest reason I'm on the Xiaomi camp for now is that they have some of the greatest budget offerings so far. Look at Poco X3, look at Mi 10T, look at Redmi Note 10 series. But if I were to buy a full-fledged flagship, all things considered, I'd without any doubt choose Samsung. However, just let them try. Perhaps in a few years they'll be properly as good as the major players.
