Ravi, 13 May 2021I was waiting for this phone, but no OIS? What the heck wer... moreYeah a lot of people seem to skip over the fact it doesn't have OIS. You would think if you're only going to keep making the flip and only have one version you would add OIS. The whole gimmick is full uninterrupted screen and good cameras / excellent selfie camera. So let's basically refresh the phone from last year, make it look a bit more boring (not a big deal just an observation), remove OIS, and raise price. Like others have said I hope they make a Flip Pro, but I think this is the last flip we will see unfortunately. Truly a shame phone makers don't really care about what people want

This is also why asus is not in the top 5 smartphone makers.

It could have been a winner if only Asus had developed it a little bit more.

No OIS for the main camera is a joke at this price point.

Downgraded cameras from the Zenfone 7 Pro (no OIS)

This makes me so annoyed, not only is there no proper upgrade, but it can't kill of my mi 9T Pro which has been around since 2019. What's wrong with you Asus?

I was waiting months for this phone to come out, just to be disappointed by it. Might as well save $250 and get a new 7 Pro off eBay instead :/

Kangal, 13 May 2021Smartphone adoption dropped in 2019, 2020, 2021. That chall... more"affordable priced phone that is great overall"

This has been an issue for me for the past two years trying to find a phone to replace my Oneplus One. My battery is shot at less than 2 hour SOT and the Snapdragon 801 is showing its age but it still all works for my needs (Chrome and Youtube). I haven't been able to find a phone that brings anything new to the table or is a good value priced phones. I understand that companies got to make money, but I agree with you that it would have been nice to get a lower spec phone at a reasonable price.

Smartphone adoption dropped in 2019, 2020, 2021. That challenge means it's a good opportunity for a company like ASUS to do something great, and earn a reputation. I feel like they dropped the ball with this one.

                        Great ideas, compromised execution.
Not everything is about FaStEsT cHiP, or MoAr cAmErAs. They should've bucked the trend, go back to the basics, and release an affordable priced phone that is great overall. Again, they have the right idea of a Small, Medium, Large phone lineup but they must execute correctly.

OK, I'm relieved that GSMA accepted the fact that Asus 8 night shots "often ruined by grain and fuzziness".
They should have noted it in the non-flip review as well.

I was waiting for this phone, but no OIS? What the heck were you thinking ASUS? Have to look elsewhere. Sad that by omitting this ASUS has crippled an otherwise good phone.

imo this is basically a Zenfone 7 Pro+ because there are minor changes, the only main difference is the 888 and that's it.

The Zenfone 8 Flip is not a bad phone by any means, but Asus raised the bar with Zenfone 7 Pro last year. Maybe they have abandoned further development, or it's hard for them to produce more of these flippy phones. Whatever the reason maybe, I feel like we won't see more of these flipcam phones by Asus in future. It feels downgraded and priced higher on purpose. It has a higher demand than Asus can produce such phones, hence you don't see it being launched globally. Still want Asus to prove me wrong and launch a Zenfone 8 Flip Pro later, with upgraded screen and a headphone jack. Two cameras are fine too, don't care about telephoto. Just make it smaller like Zenfone 6. Zenfone 6 was a perfect phone, just replace the LCD with HRR AMOLED, and it'll crush all the phones out there.
