This phone gets a lot of things right. But they should consider a Lite version. SD 780, side mounted finger print reader, plastic or aluminum back, mSD card expansion. That would be a good price and have just the right upper mid-range compact phone that the market needs. The 888 is overlook. And likely the culprit for the battery. 4000mah is reasonably big for an under 6 inch phone.

Its a good phone specs wise. But definitely not the prettiest, in fact its one of the ugliest out there. Lets be honest here GSMArena.

"endurance score was held back by the below-average standby performance", since the earliest time of Zenfone. Asus poor tweak of GMS module and drivers are the cause. They rely on their PowerMaster, which does aggressive stuff like turning off radio and wifi at night time which works and lead them to overlook the long overdue power optimization.

So the regular 8 has a headphone jack but no micro SD and the 8 Flip has micro SD but no headphone jack?
So basically they're just more absolute trash. Like 95% of the smartphones these days

Alex, 14 May 2021Wow, whole ASUS team might be here in the comments. Sudden... moreWhich flagship have sd card this days?? And it have telelens.... By your logic, no iphones are flagship also

Anonymous, 14 May 2021Did you just say 5.9 inch screen is compact?in this era of phones, i would argue yes, because most phones now are as big as >6.4", from the entry level phones to >6.7" flagships, the smallest flagship phone this year so far has to be Vivo X60 Pro+ at 6.56"

Alex, 14 May 2021Wow, whole ASUS team might be here in the comments. Sudden... moreyou kinda get what you pay for, ASUS says that the US price will cost between $599 and $799. other phones in this price range don't really have a telephoto, and the ones that do only have a 2x (or 1.1x if u are Samsung). this has 2x "lossless" zoom. Plus I don't even know if this aimed at those high end flagships if they are planning on pricing it as an upper midrange phone

What's with 5000 mAh phones not having great battery life nowadays?

Suddenly, wireless charging, SD card and telephoto lens became useless :-)
I'm not denying it's a fair tradeoff for the price. But it's nowhere near top flagships. Or even average cameraphones, with its terrible low light quality.

It's less wide only taller screen, do not look at screen size in inches, look at device dimensions. With bigger screens, 5g, better cameras, more powerful chips, bigger batteries you get a heck of a lot more hardware for your money.

Lemme me give you the example of Moto G 2013, since I owned one the dual Sim variant. It had 2070mah battery, 4.5" screen. People like to compare screen size and other things, but forget about the overall dimensions and battery size, and the state of android back then.

Where in EU can I by this?

Anonymous, 14 May 2021Every Snapdragon 888 device Has power delivery support. so when OEM release phone with 60 or 100w, they charge you lot of money and you can only use them with single phone, thats why i like standards like power delivery, price is reasonable and you can use them with any device.
